FOOTBALL FRIDAY RECAP: MARK COHON JOINS!

It was a fabulous Football Friday on Episode 182 of The Rod Pedersen Show! Here are the highlights:

  • Rod, Dupes and John Frenzy opened with The Rollout covering the following topics: 1) Big win for the Golden Knights on Thursday, 2) Huge win for the Jets on Thursday!, 3) More XFL talk, 4) In light of the upcoming Mark Cohon interview, how is current Commissioner Randy Ambrosie doing?, 5) The futures of Naaman Roosevelt and Derel Walker and 6) Curling buzz.
  • John Frenzy’s been begging for a Rider-themed show and Rod said Friday would be a good time. They talked ab0ut the franchise’s free agent moves and asked viewers on the daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question: How are the Riders doing in free agency? The majority of voters said it’s too early to tell.
  • Former CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon joined the show for a life update, his recent Talk Talk and best CFL memories. He said he’s most proud of getting the CFL back in Ottawa with much success, and also the stadium renaissance in the CFL. Mark said he was never shy of confessing his affection and admiration for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, saying he even named his dog “Rider”! Mark also revealed that he was offered the position as Commissioner of the XFL, but declined. He was happy to go out on a high with the CFL. He’s currently the Chairman of the Junos and is launching a spirits company.
  • 26-year veteran CFL referee Kim Murphy announced his retirement on the weekend and joined the show from Winnipeg to tell tons of stories. He recounted the 2014 Grey Cup (“We hate to have a game end on an official’s call,” Murphy said) and also said he was proud to come into the CFL during the American expansion era. Murphy told tons and tons of stories and Rod offered him a position as RP Show CFL Rules Analyst. He said he’d consider it!
  • Stampeders great Keon Raymond joined the show from Calgary to discuss his candidacy for President of the CFLPA. He said having an American PA President offers a huge upside. He also talked of the plight of American players in the CFL, and the threat of the XFL.
