Saskatchewan Roughriders Head Coach & GM Chris Jones confirmed on Tuesday that Zach Collaros has been placed on the 6-game Injured List.

The veteran quarterback suffered a concussion in Thursday’s loss at Ottawa.

“You don’t ever mess around when it’s a concussion-type situation,” Jones said after Tuesday’s practice. “The league has their protocol that they adhere to so we’ll put him on the 6-game in order to adhere to that.”

Jones was asked if Collaros could return to the field prior to the 6-game mandate expiring.

“We’ll see,” Jones offered. “You can be optimistic all you want but I’ve seen some guys that didn’t respond well. We’ll just go with whatever cards we’re dealt.”

The injury to Collaros means veteran Brandon Bridge will make his third career start on Saturday when the Roughriders host Montreal (7:00 pm, TSN, 620 CKRM Rider Radio Network).

“Obviously I never wanted to start because of an injury,” Bridge said Tuesday. “Hopefully Zach gets healthy and comes back quick. I’m actually excited for the task at hand, and we just need to go out there, execute our game plan, and get the W.”

Regarding the play of the offensive line against the RedBlacks, Jones offered this assessment.

“We didn’t play very good,” the coach said. “Our QB took 11 hits out of 30-some passes. Anytime that happens, things like happened to us, happen.”

Veteran offensive guard Brendon Labatte said they didn’t come out with the proper attitude against the RedBlacks, and that they played “soft”. The Weyburn, SK product then smirked towards Leader-Post football writer Murray McCormick and quipped, “There’s your headline Murray”.

As for the play of Duron Carter at CB, Jones said he was generally pleased.

“I think he played pretty good,” Jones explained. “Everybody sees the one play where he gave up the big ball but I told him, that’s kind of the life of a defensive back.”
