THREE GOAL THIRD SINKS PATS AT EDMONTON

Edmonton, Alta. — The Regina Pats fought back from a 3-0 deficit to tie Friday’s game with the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-3, but the home side was able to recover and come away with a 6-3 win.

While Edmonton dominated the first half of the game, Pats goaltender Drew Sim kept the Regiment in it, making 34 saves in the first two periods alone.

The Oil Kings were only up 1-0 after one period despite an 18-7 edge in shots on goal, but then struck back-to-back on consecutive power plays two minutes into the second period to build their lead to 3-0.

Stanislav Svozil’s power play marker got Regina on the board midway through the middle period, before Zane Rowan and Tanner Howe each scored under four minutes apart in the third period to even the score 3-3. Matteo Michels assisted on both Rowan and Howe’s goals, giving him his first multi-point game in the Western Hockey League.

Unfortunately for the Pats, Arizona Coyotes first-round pick Dylan Guenther responded 1:44 after Howe’s game-tying-goal to put the Oil Kings back out in front 4-3 halfway through the third period. Josh Williams and Carter Souch would each add their second goals of the night in the final 65 seconds of the contest to make it 6-3.

The final shots on goal tally favoured the Oil Kings 49-24.

Regina went 1-for-6 on the power play on Friday, but the Oil Kings went 2-for-5 on their man advantage.
