COMMENTARY: IT’S TIME

A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend:

#1 – It should be an interesting day. They all are, but today more than most as the NHL Trade Deadline lands Friday afternoon.

I can’t tell the fake news from the real news anymore so I’ll just sit and wait to see what happens but the latest is that Sidney Crosby has agreed to be traded if he likes the deal. That would certainly shake things up.

#2 – I checked with the Calgary folk to see if Thursday night’s 6-3 win at Tampa Bay was the last for goalie Jacob Markstrom in a Flames uniform. After all, they dealt off their top two defencemen this week so that cues a rebuild, does it not?

But no … ownership nixed the Markstrom deal and there will be none happening.

So they’ll miss the playoffs and still have a disgruntled goalie in their net.

This is as half-assed as it gets.

#3 – Saskatchewan’s been on pins and needles waiting to see if Winnipeg’s Mike McEwen will be the one to lead them to their first Brier title since 1980.

You can inhale now and hold it through the weekend; McEwen has Saskatchewan into the playoffs which start today.

If I recall the last Brier champ from Saskatchewan – Rick Folk – said he’d be happy to see the drought end anytime now. Maybe this will be the year!

And #4 – Unfortunately one of the biggest stories coming out of the Brier is the leaking roof and backed-up washrooms in the Brandt Centre causing problems for the fans and competitors.

Is this the catalyst we’ll need to see a new arena built in Regina? Embarrassment on the national stage?

If Pats owner Shaun Semple is a big of a community guy as he says he is, then now’s the time to prove it.

Have a nice weekend!

Great stuff “Fake News” started in 1996. There was a time you built a newsroom and catered to circulation. If it were television/radio then “news” was a loss leader and you built it around advertising etc. When Conrad Black who still writes for his National Post – gobbled up everything that was the beginning of the end. After that you had Fox News giving the other side and they mixed in commentary so the entire thing was confusing. To be clear in 2024. “Fake News” is anything that is shareholder driven. Value must be created through clicks, fear, outright lieing… Read more »

…oh me too brotha from anotha motha and yes #WhackPackForeva!!!! and remember what I said – well actually Pedro Morales told Brett Hart in the early years. “You can’t hold back talent” It’s all going to even out because the saying is true. Go woke, then head on home broke. I see the day coming when your brand gets so big you end up hiring subsidaries under the RP Banner. Some dudes will get your rub and then spend all their time on: College Game Day Junior Hockey NFL CFL NBA/CEBL NHL – Cats ‘n Bolts I see it with… Read more »

Can’t the toilets and roof be fixed? Building a whole new arena just to fix that sounds like buying a new car because you got a flat tire.

There needs to be a new rink that is state of the art beside the Stadium. This is an education point – okay so the Agridome was built in 1977 and it fits humans that are the 1977 model. I literally spend the winter there in addition to many years of concerts, rodeos, etc, etc. It’s an antequated dump. The scoreboard was paid for by the Semples otherwise it’d still dresemble the scoreclock from Hyanisport vs Charleston. The building is nothing more than a Russian gulag prison at this point and you can’t attact anything to it. What needs to… Read more »
