Commentary: Mission Accomplished

It’s Wednesday and that must mean it’s time for some random thoughts! Here we go!

#1 – Were you by your TV set last night to watch Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky make, perhaps, the greatest save in Stanley Cup Playoff history?

It came in the second period off Tampa’s Matt Dumba, who thought he had a sure goal and wide open cage. But Bob sprawled across backwards, no-look, and thwarted Dumba’s shot with the back of his trapper arm.

Hasek made a save similar in the 90’s and that’s only one that comes close in my books.

#2 – Florida won the game 3-2 in overtime; the Panthers’ 11th straight overtime playoff win. Carter Verhaeghe scored the winner, his fifth career playoff OT tally, and only Joe Sakic and Rocket Richard have scored more!

#3 – I sat in the press box beside Mike Gavac of Czech Media Services and the topic of ticket prices came up. He asked what Panthers playoff tickets will run you so we looked it up. You can get into Game 5 next week – if there is one – for just $53.

Compare that to Game 2 of the Oilers & Kings tonight in Edmonton, where the cheapest is $230!

#4 – Got an email from the Miami Heat offering tickets for Games 3 & 4 of their playoff series against the Boston Celtics.

You can get in for just 50 bucks.

I honestly don’t know what it is about Canada, the NHL, and their ticket prices.

But the barns are soldout so it’s none of my business.

I’m just overly grateful to be able to watch from the press box.

And #5 – It was music to my ears. A viewer to the RP Show yesterday wrote in and said she woke up in a bad mood but our show turned her frown upside down. Her mood went from a bad one, to a good one over the course of two hours!

Mission accomplished.

That’s really all I’m after: to be entertaining, and make you feel good.

We’re not splitting atoms here.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

“Got an email from the Miami Heat offering tickets for Games 3 & 4 of their playoff series against the Boston Celtics. You can get in for just 50 bucks.” I experienced something similar a few years back when I was in LA when the Clippers and the Lakers were in the playoffs. I remember thinking it would be impossible to get Clippers playoff tickets, never mind the Lakers. To my shock, I checked Stubhub and there were seats as low as, I don’t remember exactly how much, but somewhere in the $50-$80 range for both teams. Canadian NHL fans… Read more »

Ticket prices…….interesting……..might explain why the Coyotes are gone from Phoenix……last February 19 and 21, cousin and I were in Phoenix to celebrate his beating cancer, Oilers/Leafs respective dates, so 4 tickets, two games, $1,300 CDN to sit on a bench in the end zone in a 4,500 seat arena……
