Wednesday Commentary: Don’t Tell Anyone
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
Wednesdays are for random thoughts on this Commentary – here’s what we got:
#1 – The CFL Draft came and went on Tuesday evening with, as far as I’m concerned, a suitable amount of hype.
The Edmonton Elks made Cincinnati linebacker Joel Dublanko the #1 overall pick, putting him in the history books with other top picks like Sean Millington, Scott Schultz, Henoc Muamba, Kent Warnock and Gerald Wilcox.
That list has far more names of guys who went onto obscurity, but that’s what makes the CFL Draft so fun!
#2 – The Roughriders came away with eight players in the Draft, most notably Robert Mimbs’ son D’Sean in Round 5 and perhaps the best receiver in the draft, Garden City Junior College’s Ajou Ajou in Round 7. He also played at South Florida. And Clemson.
Call him a younger, Canadian Duron Carter.
John Frenzy would call him a B.T.T.: “A Big Time Talent boyyyyyyyyy!”
This will be fun to watch.
#3 – Check on your Winnipeg friends in the days ahead. The Jets got bombed 6-3 by Colorado Tuesday night and the Avalanche take that first round Stanley Cup Playoff series in five games.
The Gentleman’s Sweep.
Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck is gonna want to take a nice long holiday nowhere near Winnipeg as soon as possible after being the goat in this series. In Game 5 he gave up five goals on 31 shots.
He’s up for the Vezina along with Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Here’s the difference: If Bob has a stinker, he never has a another one.
This whole series was baffling for Hellebuyck.
And #4 – Speaking of the Panthers, they’ve got to wait a few more days for their Round 2 opponent after the Leafs stayed alive in their series with Boston, beating the Bruins 2-1 in OT in Game 5. Florida will play the winner.
Don’t tell anyone, but I’m cheering for the Leafs.
