Commentary: Not On Your Life
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All Nezw Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
Wrapping up the weekend today, and looking ahead to an exciting week!
So much goes on since the last time we talked. In the CFL, Winnipeg downed Ottawa 25-16 on Friday, Montreal outlasted Calgary 30-26 on Saturday, and BC destroyed Hamilton 44-28 on Sunday.
I watched almost all of it.
And what do I see people talking about the most? Bo Levi Mitchell and the Ticats being 0-5. In fact they’re calling them “Bo & 5”.
Harsh!
And the Riders take on those red-hot BC Lions on Saturday. The discussion around here over the weekend centred on the record-low crowds at Mosaic Stadium for the team’s home games despite a 4-0 start. The out-of-towners seem offended but nobody’s pointing the finger at them! I thought it was well-known that 80% of the Riders’ ticket base comes from within a 60-mile radius of the Queen City.
You may want to examine why those folks have stopped going. There’s more than enough of them to fill the park.
But what I also know is that the people are making a statement and once the snowball starts rolling in Sask, it’s impossible to stop.
Ask Cody Fajardo.
In the Western Canadian Baseball League, the Swift Current 57’s snapped the Moose Jaw Millers’ eight game win streak on Sunday. We’ve only got 10 home games left before playoffs in August! On Thursday the Miller Express welcomes the Weyburn Beavers to Ross Wells Park.
Meanwhile in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, the Saskatchewan Rattlers’ 100th game in franchise history was not a memorable one on Sunday. They got spanked 99-70 in Vancouver for their seventh straight loss. I watched that one on Game+ TV and they did a nice job of the broadcast.
Examining the Rattlers’ problems would take more time than we have here, but I feel for them. It appears that in that league when things go bad, they go bad FAST.
And lastly you’d have to be living under a rock not to notice Canada is playing Argentina in a semifinal Tuesday in the Copa America soccer tournament.
Yo – I’m no soccer aficionado but I know Lionel Messi plays for Argentina so for Canada, this could get Messi!
Will I watch? Probably.
Will I understand what’s going on?
Not on your life.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Craig Reynolds!!!! open up the curtains pal, see whats going on out there? Every time this guy faces the media, he looks like he just got out of divorce court. It is MINIMUM $100 dollars to attend a game, per person, no matter what. Gas, tickets, parking, beer, popcorn…Take a good hard look at the food prices and the QUALITY and QUANTITY you receive for that amount. TERRIBLE. $65 dollars for the worst SEAT in the house and it goes up from there. Do you realize how far way from the field you are? The second level is like 60… Read more »
Its simple.
The riders and the media have to come to grips that they are not the only show in the city.
