Commentary: Detaching With Love
(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
It’s Wednesday and time for Random Thoughts Day on this commentary! Here we go:
#1 – In case you missed it, the Winnipeg Jets and Florida Panthers met twice in the past week. On Saturday in Sunrise, the Panthers prevailed 5-0 while Tuesday night in Winnipeg, the Jets turned the tables and dominated 6-3.
If that’s a Stanley Cup Final preview, sign me up!
#2 – I told you yesterday that I’ve got plenty of Grey Cup leftovers. They’re saying this might’ve been the best Grey Cup Festival ever! The BC Lions and Grey Cup committee went to Super Bowl in Las Vegas last year and brought back what they found. That’s what I saw anyway. It definitely had a “Super Bowl feel”.
When fans of other teams are saying this was the best Grey Cup Festival ever, that’s really saying something.
#3 – There really is no off-season anymore in the CFL, although teams will generally take December off. But the Edmonton Elks made the news Tuesday by naming Ed Hervey as their new General Manager, presumably ousting interim GM Geroy Simon and likely interim head coach Jarious Jackson too.
I thought new Elks President Chris Morris said that franchise will no longer be a revolving door?
Meh. Morris should at least be allowed to hire his own guy. Rumour is Rick Campbell will be the new coach and that news could/should come within the next 24-48 hours.
And #4 – Fans have been respectful enough to not pick at me for my Dallas Cowboys being the joke of the NFC this year. (The NY Jets are the joke of the AFC).
At 3-7 overall and 0-5 at home, they’re not even America’s Team anymore. But rather than switching allegiances as I’ve been quick to do in the NHL, I just can’t see bailing on the Dallas Cowboys.
They’re the only NFL team I’ve ever cheered for.
But it’s shocking to me that the national media is only finding out now that Owner/GM Jerry Jones puts himself ahead of winning?
We’ve known that for years in the Cowboys Nation.
No, I’ll still love the Dallas Cowboys but I’m detaching with love. It’s a concept I learned in the Recovery business and translates very well to sports.
It goes like this: “I still love you, but I won’t let your actions and behavior disrupt my life and peace any longer.”
You should try it.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
