Friday Commentary: House Money

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – Oh my what a Thursday! Where to start? Well the leadoff item across the land is the Toronto Blue Jays beating the NY Yankees 8-5 at Rogers Centre. It completes the Jays’ first four game home sweep of the Yankees in franchise history! Oh, and on the Fourth of July, Toronto is in first place in the AL East.
Feels like they’re playing with house money already.
#2 – Might as well stick with baseball. The fireworks came a day early at Currie Field in Regina Thursday night. The Moose Jaw Miller Express exploded for 19 runs in a 19-16 victory over the hometown Red Sox. I was there and it was great to meet more Miller player families, and catch up with old friends.
Tonite the Millers are home to Carter Beck and the Saskatoon Berries.
#3 – I caught a lot of the Stampede Bowl too. But it wasn’t much of a game. The hometown Stampeders routed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers – who forgot to show up – 37-16.
The announced crowd was 22-thousand-and-change and I thought it looked really good on TV. Others are flaming the Stamps for sub-par attendance but we can all agree on one thing:
It’s better than what they’ve had.
And #4 – You won’t notice it until I point it out, but if for some silly reason you’re sick of the NFL and NHL, then you should savor the next three weeks or so.
The hockey guys have all gone to the lake for their first rest since September, and NFL training camps don’t open for a few more weeks. It’s the deadest part of the year in both leagues.
I’m sure you’ll find something else to do.
