EDMONTON 39 OTTAWA 33
Justin Rankin scored a pair of touchdowns as the Edmonton Elks finally captured their first win of the season, coming up big to defeat the Ottawa Redblacks 39-33 on Sunday.
Edmonton (1-3) snapped a three-game losing skid to start the CFL campaign.
Ottawa, despite the return of quarterback Dru Brown, dropped to 1-4 with its second straight loss. Brown threw for 316 yards, snapping his streak of three straight 400+ yard games which would’ve put him in a club with Doug Flutie, Warren Moon and Kent Austin.
The Elks led 15-3, 22-17 and 32-23 by quarter.
Edmonton QB Tre Ford tossed for 212 yards and two touchdowns. He was spelled off in one series by Cody Fajardo, who went 4/4.

BC 21 MONTREAL 20
Sean Whyte’s 43-yard field goal on the final play of the game lifted the B.C. Lions to a stunning come-from-behind 21-20 win over the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday at Percival Molson Stadium,
Whyte’s walk-off winner, his third field goal of the CFL contest, was aided by Montreal lineman Pier-Olivier Lestage’s late 15-yard penalty, shortening the field for Whyte and the Lions to rally.
Trailing 17-12 as time wound down in the fourth quarter, Lions’ quarterback Nathan Rourke connected on a 46-yard touchdown pass to Stanley Berryhill the Third to put the Lions ahead 18-17.
The Alouettes responded with a 24-yard field by Jose Maltos with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter to go ahead 20-18.
The Lions quickly moved the ball downfield on the ensuing kickoff, setting up Whyte for his last-play heroics.
Rourke was making his first start for B.C. since June 12 after missing his team’s last two games with an oblique injury. He went 22-for-36, throwing for 352 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Lions, who improved to 2-3.
McLeod Bethel-Thompson, starting his second straight game at quarterback in place of the injured Davis Alexander, completed 15 of 23 pass attempts, good for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
The Alouettes (3-2) enter their first of three scheduled bye weeks of the season on a two-game losing skid. The loss was also their fifth straight loss against the Lions dating back to July of 2023. Montreal has yet to win a game against B.C. under current head coach Jason Maas.

HAMILTON 51 TORONTO 38
Bo Levi Mitchell threw five touchdown passes as Hamilton defeated Toronto 51-38 on Friday night at BMO Field. The win was the Ticats’ fourth straight against the Argos and Mitchell improved to 16-2 all-time versus the defending Grey Cup champions.
Mitchell completed 19-of-24 passes for 332 yards and became the 11th player in CFL history to crack the 40,000-yards plateau. Three of his TD passes were to Kenny Lawler, who had six catches for 207 yards.
Hamilton had high expectations for Lawler when the team signed the former Winnipeg Blue Bomber in free agency. And the six-foot-one, 180-pound receiver hasn’t disappointed, registering 24 catches for 483 yards and five TDs thus far.
Mitchell cemented the win with a 16-yard TD pass to Kiondre Smith at 4:29 of the fourth quarter to put Hamilton ahead 44-26. It came after Toronto had pulled to within 37-26.
“I think that’s as good as I’ve seen him play,” Milanovich said of Mitchell.
Toronto pulled to within 44-32 on Khalan Laborn’s one-yard run at 8:01 but the two-point convert attempt was unsuccessful. Then Hamilton’s Isaiah Wooden Sr. returned the kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown at 8:47 for the backbreaker.
Toronto (1-4) dropped to 0-3 at home before a BMO Field gathering of 12,701.

STAMPEDE BOWL: CALGARY 37 WINNIPEG 16
Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. and the Stampeders had a sense of occasion in Calgary’s first “Stampede Bowl” with a 37-16 win over the visiting Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday. The hosts were dominant in the first CFL game named in honour of the Calgary Stampede which started Friday and has been a city fixture for over a century.
After three straight games without a touchdown pass for the first time in his career, Adams threw his first two as a Stampeder while Damon Webb and Derrick Moncrief returned interceptions for a pair of touchdowns.
There were cowboy hats all around as the Stampeders hoisted a bespoke trophy designed for the game attended by an announced 22,485 at McMahon Stadium.
Clark Barnes and Damien Alford caught Adams’ touchdown passes and Dedrick Mills scored a rushing touchdown for Calgary (3-1).
Rene Paredes contributed five kicking points and punter Mark Vassett a punt single for the hosts, who handed the Blue Bombers (3-1) their first loss of the season.
Winnipeg’s Jerreth Sterns caught a touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter and kicker Sergio Castillo was good from 19, 21 and 29 yards.
