Commentary: We’re The Millers

It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday on the Commentary! Here we go:
#1 – The curtain rises on the Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs tonight and in the East Division, it’s the Regina Red Sox at Medicine Hat Mavericks, and the Moose Jaw Miller Express visits the Saskatoon Berries in Game 1s. The series shift to Currie Field and Ross Wells Park for Game 2s on Thursday. These are Best of 3’s and it goes fast! This is what we’ve worked all summer for.
#2 – In a poll of RP Show viewers on Tuesday, they voted the #1 story of NFL training camps is Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons demanding a trade. The Cowboys’ best defensive player is upset over shady contract dealings by Dallas Owner/GM Jerry Jones. Jerry addressed it earlier this week and advised fans not to panic. The season is getting off to a fantastic start!
#3 – It actually is getting off to a fantastic start for the Roughriders of the CFL. They’re off to a 7-1 start and are enjoying a bye this week before hosting the red-hot Hamilton Tiger-Cats next Saturday at Mosaic Stadium. The Tabbies have won six in a row and it’s got folks pumping that game up as a Grey Cup preview.
A word to the wise: if you look back, usually when we make a big deal out of a Grey Cup preview, Super Bowl preview or even Stanley Cup preview, it rarely ends up happening. But I certainly get the hype …
And #4 – Hockey is never too far from our minds. The Florida Panthers noted Monday that we are 63 (Brad Marchand’s jersey number) days away from opening night when the Cats welcome Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks. Meanwhile Bedard was named to Canada’s Olympic tryout camp roster over the weekend which comes as a mild surprise to me, since he wasn’t on Team Canada for last February’s Four Nations Faceoff team.
It’s always fun to debate.
