How bout them Cowboys?

With a Tuesday evening off, and at the suggestion of some RP Show viewers, I tucked into the new Netflix series “America’s Team, The Gambler & His Cowboys” which chronicles the history of the Dallas Cowboys since Jerry Jones bought the franchise in 1989.

I’m getting a kick out of how so many viewers across the continent are amused by my love/hate relationship with the Cowboys which goes back to 1990.

It’s not funny. Although maybe it is.

So I’m two episodes into the eight-episode series and so far it’s fascinating, but not anything I didn’t already know. I’ve watched all the games, read all the books, and toured both stadiums.

What the show is, is simply a great way for fans of every other team to learn how Jerry made his fortune, and has taken the franchise through the highest of highs and lowest of lows.

For instance, did you know Jerry leveraged everything he had to buy his first oil well for $800,000? And that oil well went on to gush $100-million which he turned into buying the Cowboys?

That was something I didn’t know.

The show does get better and better and through the 90’s – which is where I left off – things were pretty good as Dallas won three Super Bowls and everyone was getting along famously.

Sadly, I know what comes next. Jones couldn’t get along with his coaches and players from that dynasty and everything falls apart. And nothing’s changed 30 years later as the Cowboys strive to get back to the Promised Land. At least Jerry admitted to being “greedy” in the show.

What impressed me is how Troy Aikman, Jimmy Johnson, Michael Irvin, Jerry Jones and Co. got over their squabbles to come together and do interviews for this series, which really is a masterpiece.

It’ll be a few years, maybe even decades, before the Patriots boys do the same.

Jerry Jones.

That is a m.a.n. That organization was m.e.n.

He’ll stay in as long as he breathes because he teaches everyone the very valuable lesson….nobody is coming to help. Bet on yourself every single time.

It really only lasted 5 years. 1992 and by 1997 it was all over.

That era was essentially what happens when you combine the 1980 Miami U with Oklahoma….it’ll never happen again and there was no such thing as Toxic Masulinity.

“Asthma field is over there…” lol

The White House….what an era to be a young man looking up to those guys AND…..Barry Switzer:)
