RIDERS BRING BACK COLLAROS
Quarterback Zach Collaros is staying with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The Roughriders announced on Tuesday that they have re-signed Collaros to a one-year contract.
It was believed that the Riders were in on other big-name, big-money QBs like Bo Levi Mitchell (who eventually re-signed with Calgary), but ended up confirming the Collaros signing in the late-afternoon.
Collaros will return to the Riders for a second season after originally being acquired by the team in a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Jan. 2018. Last year, the 30-year-old threw for 2,999 yards and nine touchdowns. He had 10 wins in 14 starts.
Collaros is entering his eighth CFL season. He spent his first two years with the Toronto Argonauts, before signing with Hamilton in 2014 as a free agent. He won a Grey Cup in 2012 as a backup quarterback with Toronto.
However Collaros missed five games in 2018 with concussion issues – including the Western Semifinal – and his concussion history has to be a major concern for the Green & White.
Are the Riders done at that position in free agency?
It’s highly unlikely. For starters, Brandon Bridge is still available and there hasn’t been a whisper about which team he’s leaning towards. On the other hand, 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk reports Wednesday morning that FA QB Jonathan Jennings has chosen Ottawa over Toronto.
What happened to Saskatchewan for Jennings?
Perhaps GM Jeremy O’Day didn’t want to overpay for such an unproven commodity.
Also still on the market are Kevin Glenn and Travis Lulay.
Meanwhile Rider franchise legend Rob Bagg took to Twitter Wednesday morning saying he’s still waiting for an opportunity. Clearly he’s not ready to hang it up, but it also doesn’t appear like the Riders will be ringing Bagg’s phone.
Wednesday is shaping up to be just as wild as Tuesday was!
