SC BRONCOS HIRE DEAN BROCKMAN
Swift Current, SK: The Swift Current Broncos Hockey Club is very pleased to introduce to the members of the media, to Bronco Nation, and to Southwest Saskatchewan Mr. Dean Brockman as the next Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations.
Relocating to Swift Current to become the eighth coach in Broncos’ WHL history, Brockman spent the past four hockey seasons with the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades; the prior two as head coach. Beginning in 1997, Brockman spent 17 seasons with the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos and became their head coach in 2004. He was an Anavet Cup Champion in 2012, three-time Royal Bank Cup Champion, represented Canada for the World Junior A Challenge in both 2011 and 2012; and was named the SJHL’s Coach of the Year four times.
“I’m very happy to be given this opportunity and be a part of this historic franchise,” said Brockman. “Being from Saskatchewan, I am familiar with the community and how much the Swift Current Broncos mean to the greater Southwest. It’s a huge reason why I am ecstatic to be here and can’t wait to get started.”
Described as the modern player’s coach, Brockman’s teams can be characterized as being fast paced, puck hungry, hardworking and aggressive in all three zones. An engaging coach who understands players and appreciates what it will be like to lead the CHL’s smallest market team, Brockman has also been described by several people in the hockey community as one of the top three nicest guys you will ever meet in hockey.
“The Broncos Personnel Committee was impressed with Dean’s ability to build and to maintain relationships with players, parents, staff and community while at the same time getting the best out of his team,” said Broncos Board Chair, Trent McCleary. “We are looking forward to working with and getting to know Coach Brockman while we defend the WHL Championship and Ed Chynoweth Cup.”
Born and raised in St Benedict, Saskatchewan, Brockman grew up on the family farm 30 miles northwest of Humboldt. His greatest influences and his biggest fans and supporters are his wife Cheryl, step son Connor and son Parker. He loves all sports and when he is not at the rink, he enjoys fishing and golf.The Broncos Board and team invite the community to give a warm welcome to Dean Brockman: Swift Current Broncos Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations.
