RUSH, ROUGHNECKS TEAM UP TO FIGHT CANCER

Saskatoon, SK – It’s a Battle of the Prairies on and off the field on Saturday, April 28th as the Saskatchewan Rush and the Calgary Roughnecks will team up to “Lacrosse Out Cancer” on Saturday, April 28 at SaskTel Centre.  Players on both teams will sport Team Naomi Get Well Now socks during the game helping to raise awareness for Pediatric Cancer Research. Additionally, the Rush will have Team Naomi stickers on the back of their helmets.

The Get Well Now socks will be available for purchase throughout the game for $15/crew and $20/knee high. Additionally, Team Naomi volunteers will be selling a $10 Team Naomi t-shirt, collecting coins for cancer, and running a silent auction table featuring shoes worn by Naomi and Rush transition player Jeremy Thompson.

At just six years old, Naomi was diagnosed with a rare pediatric cancer. In fact, latest numbers show that one child every week in Saskatchewan is diagnosed with cancer. Cancer kills more children than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, and AIDS combined BUT it is often the last diagnosis investigated. This needs to change. Since it began the Team Naomi has raised over $140,000 for rare pediatric cancer research.

“Warriors come in all shapes and sizes, but the mightiest of all will be found battling the beast in a pediatric cancer center. Cancer is not a taboo subject anymore, EXCEPT when it comes to kids. If a 9 year old girl can battle stage 4 cancer and WIN, then we adults can start to include kids in the cancer conversation. Team Naomi was built from a village of care, and there is no greater village of care than Rush Nation” said Team Naomi.

“Naomi is a warrior and we would like to encourage all of Rush Nation taking in this game to rally behind this brave, strong little girl. The lacrosse community is a tight knit family and we look forward to giving Naomi a special night out, surrounded by her family, friends and 15,000 supportive fans” said Andrea Glieheisen, VP Marketing Saskatchewan Rush.
