ROOSEVELT OUT, RICHARDSON IN

(Naaman Roosevelt/Trent Richardson)
Tuesday is a newsworthy day in Riderville. Let’s recap:
– Leading receiver Naaman Roosevelt wasn’t present on Day 1 of the work week. I’m told he’s going through the league’s concussion protocol and is being evaluated daily. Rob Bagg wore Roosevelt’s #82 in practice likely as a sign of support. Rider receivers have done this for years.
– Head Coach Chris Jones revealed Roosevelt won’t play this week at Ottawa.
– The Riders officially signed RB Trent Richardson. The Alabama star and 2012 NFL first round pick has NFL playing experience with the Colts and Browns. He didn’t participate in the offence on Tuesday but was brought up to speed by RB coach Kent Maugeri.
– Chris Jones said Richardson won’t see the field until they’re convinced he’s in CFL shape. Jones confirmed he won’t play Friday at Ottawa.

– Asked about the resumption of his pro career after not seeing the field since 2014, Richardson said “I just want to play football”.  He said his “itch” to play football was so bad that he couldn’t even watch games or ESPN’s Sportscenter. However unlike Vince Young, Richardson’s not coming back to the game because he’s upset over the way his NFL career ended. He reiterated that he simply missed being on the field.

– Asked if his signing will be viewed as ploy to get back to the NFL, Richardson replied, “It is”.
