THE SCENE FROM HAMILTON
HAMILTON – The Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-5) held their day-before walk through at McMaster University on Thursday as they prepare for Friday’s Week 13 showdown against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-8) at Tim Horton’s Field (5:00 pm Sask Time, TSN 620 CKRM Rider Radio Network).
Here are some notes:
1 – Roughriders Head Coach & GM Chris Jones stated that quarterback Kevin Glenn’s status is still day-to-day with a right hand injury. He maintained that it will be a game time decision but added, “I want K.G. to play”. However on the flipside, Jones stated that back-up Brandon Bridge has had a great week of practice and the club is comfortable with him should they go that way.
2 – On Thursday morning the Riders declared their 46-man roster for the contest and it included six changes. Among them are the insertion of Jeff Knox Jr., Otha Foster and Marcus Thigpen who were all signed this week. Foster is listed as a starter while Knox is listed as a back-up.
3 – In all, the changes are – IN: KR Marcus Thigpen, LB Otha Foster, LB Jeff Knox, LB Beau Landry, LB Brandyn Bartlett, DT T.J. Barnes. OUT: FB Milton, DL Ratelle, LB Dargan, LB Gagne, WR Grant, DT LaFrance.
4 – Regarding the CFL’s new “No Pads” policy during practice week effective immediately, Jones said it doesn’t affect his team very much.
5 – For the Ticats, Head Coach & GM June Jones said he’s in favour of the CFL’s new policy adding, “I’m a no pads guy”.
6 – Regarding the Johnny Manziel issue, Jones deferred to Ticats VP of Football Ops Kent Austin.
7 – The Ticats have five roster injuries, including former Rider Ricky Collins Jr. coming OFF.
8 – The Canadian Football Hall of Fame induction gala goes Thursday evening at Tim Hortons Field. I’ll be reporting live on 620 CKRM’s SportsCage during the event. This year’s induciton class includes Kelvin Anderson, Mike O’Shea, Geroy Simon, Anthony Calvillo, Brian Towriss and Stan Schwartz.
