BEAVERS SWEEP RED SOX
The Weyburn Beavers swept the first place Regina Red Sox taking back to back games at Currie Field. Weyburn used a three-hit pitching performance to win 4-1 Tuesday night.
The Red Sox also got a strong pitching effort from starter Austin Alarid. He pitched 7.2 innings, throwing 127 pitches collecting 11 strikeouts. Alarid gave up four walks and eight hits and three earned runs. Ruddy Estrella and Kevin Borst came on in relief for the Red Sox.
Austin Gurr started for the Beavers and was spectacular in his seven innings, allowing just one earned run on two hits and a walk. He also fanned three Red Sox batters.
Gurr gave way to Lance Fazende who pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Eric Evans came on to close the game out for the Beavers. This Weyburn threesome gave up just three hits in the contest.
Weyburn’s Luis Jimenez had a brilliant night at the plate going 4 for 5 scoring two runs. Anthony Wiggens also had two hits for the Beavers, who improved to 19-14.
Regina’s lone offensive bright spot was Antonio Torres. The Sacramento City Community College catcher had a hit and a walk in three plate appearances.
Regina, now 20-11, will look to get back on the winning track when they host the Yorkton Cardinals on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7 pm at Currie Field.
