GREY CUP, BURRIS HEADING TO LONDON, UK

The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced that 104th Grey Cup Champion and MVP Henry Burris will be travelling to London, UK with one of the oldest trophies in pro sport, the Grey Cup, to celebrate #Canada150 at Trafalgar Square.

The CFL was invited by the High Commission of Canada in the UK to participate in their Canada 150 celebrations on July 1st in Trafalgar Square, where Canada House is positioned. The High Commission is taking over the square for the day and there will be various Canadian organizations in attendance, including the CFL. A Grey Cup photo booth will be set up in the middle of Trafalgar Square for the entire day. Millions of people will be celebrating the 150th birthday of Canada at home and all over the world – including an estimated 80,000 people in Trafalgar Square – and the CFL is bringing the party to the people of London.

As part of the celebration, one of four flagship parties will feature a CFL ‘Watch Party’ as the Saskatchewan Roughriders play their inaugural game at their new stadium against their biggest rivals, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, at Carlsberg Sports Bar located in the Empire Casino. At the ‘Watch Party’ fans will be able to take in the momentous game LIVE with two-time Most Outstanding Player Henry Burris and with the Grey Cup in attendance.

“This is a great way to engage Canadians and CFL fans abroad during a special celebration for Canada 150,” said CFL’s Senior Vice President of Marketing and Content, Christina Litz. “The Grey Cup is the fans’ trophy and showcasing it overseas, with one of the most recognizable players that played our game, makes for a memorable experience on Canada Day.”

“We are delighted that the CFL – and the Grey Cup – will be joining our Canada 150 celebrations for what we are certain will be a day of tremendous fun and a chance to share a true slice of Canada with our many friends here in the UK,” added Mrs. Janice Charette, Canada’s High Commissioner to the UK.
