RED SOX DROP CARDS IN HOME OPENER

A slugfest is the only way to describe Sunday’s game at Currie Field between Yorkton and Regina.

The Red Sox, playing their season home opener, jumped out to an early lead when Justin Erlandson smacked his second solo homer of the young WMBL season to open the scoring.

The score stayed 1-0 until Jordan Schulz’s three run double was a key part of the Red Sox four-run fifth inning.

Yorkton countered with three runs in the sixth and six runs in the seventh as the 628 fans in attendance watched the Red Sox five run lead disappear.

With the score, 9-5, in favour of the visitors, Red Sox catcher Antonio Torres ignited the comeback with a a three-run triple. Torres’ hit sparked another Red Sox four-run inning to tie the game at 9

The Red Sox took the lead for good by adding three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Manager Mitch MacDonald used four relievers including Justin Magstadt who pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

The Red Sox, now 3-1 on the season, will host the Weyburn Beavers on Monday night. Game time 7 pm at Currie Field.
