PRESS BOX SPORTS BAR RECAP: PATS’ STREAK ENDS

Carter Folk’s first goal of the season – at even strength with just 2:54 remaining – was the game-winner for the hometown Victoria Royals Saturday night as they upended the Regina Pats 5-3.

With the defeat, the Pats suffered their first regulation time loss of the 2016-17 WHL season and saw their 11-game win streak come to an end.

Despite outshooting the Royals 46-25, the Pats trailed 2-0 after the opening 20 minutes and 3-2 after two periods.

Royals netminder Griffen Outhouse was named the game’s #1 star with a 43-save effort.

Tyler Brown took the loss in the Regina goal, making 20 saves.  The Royals’ last goal was an empty-netter from Jack Walker with just four seconds remaining.

Connor Hobbs scored twice for Regina and was awarded the game’s #2 star.  Chase Harrison also found the net for the Pats.

Tyler Soy (on a penalty shot), Dante Hannoun and Chaz Redekopp scored the other Victoria goals.

Regina was 1/5 on the powerplay and 3/4 killing penalties.

6,619 was the attendance at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.

The Pats (15-1-3) play the third game of their west coast trip Sunday at 8:00 pm Sask Time at Vancouver on 620 CKRM.

Ours cant stop a beach ball most nights cuz hes bored. Never when it counts. Cut bait while it's still good play hollet whatever were good for 2 years.nice streak over but brown will cost us if we let him. Send him to the states where it's warmer and move on . About 25 or more of the shots were to Victoria's goalies crest. Most of them were with nobody in front. This team still likes to play on the perimeter. Our D-men did the scoring which tells me the forwards are either too cute or not bearing down. This has been coming for a while. They weren't ready to go in Edmonton either but snuck out a win. Poor starts are bound to catch up to you. Two breakaway goals against. Our guy couldn't stop either one. Folk's winning goal was a softie..again! It wouldn't surprise me to see a few… Read more »

Was at the game, the only issue with goaltending was Victoria's kid was fantastic. In my opinion the Pats played a team that could skate with them, Vics forwards are tiny and the Pats likely could have worn them down with a more physical approach. All in all a very entertaining game. No need to worry, not many, if any teams can keep up with the Pats.

I watched on WHLive…not sure what game the Anon was watching where he said no Pats in front of net? Lots of great scoring chances but just couldn't stuff the rebounds like they have so many times this year. Vic has a good team with speed but we still dominated ice time in their end as evidenced by the shots. No Team going to go undefeated so was only a matter of time. I listen to the coaches post game comments…they tell it like it is. I think the Pats will win a few more this year.

Nice to see a Saskatchewan team doing well for a change. Was tired of Alberta teams and from Branson always at the top. Hope the Pats take it all and look forward to seeing them when they play our Raiders. Go Pats!

William unfortunately some fans see what they want to see. Negatives can always be found if you really need something to bitch about. I appreciate your intelligent comments regarding the Pat's.

OOPS ! The already decided Memorial Cup Champions finally came down to earth according to some of the Anons on here . Time for a new goalie, Victoria outskated them, you heard it all here on the above Anons, I have nothing to do with those comments but I would suggest that if the Pats lose another one the Band wagon will be flying high. And shots on goal really do mean nothing it should be scoring chances and forget altogether about shots on goal

Oh Oh, Party is over. Couple more losses and the old Barn will be back to 3300 per game just like burnt out Saskatoon Blades.
