RIDERS READY FOR ARGOS

TORONTO — On Friday morning the Saskatchewan Roughriders announced their roster for Saturday’s game at Toronto (2:00 pm, TSN, 620 CKRM Rider Radio Network).

There are a total of seven changes from last week’s 32-30 overtime win at Ottawa.

IN are WR Ricky Collins, QB Jake Waters, RB Joe McKnight, LB Korey Jones, LB Marvin Golding, OL Kennedy Estelle and WR Ryan Lankford.

OUT are DL Justin Capicciotti, RB Curtis Steele, WR Armanti Edwards, DL Eric Norwood, OL Xavier Fulton, DL Makana Henry and WR Jeff Fuller.

Jarriel King will replace Fulton at left tackle while Estelle is in for Matt Vonk at left guard.  Dan Clark is the centre, Andrew Jones is at right guard and Thaddeus Coleman takes up his usual position at right tackle.

“Matt (Vonk’s) done some good things for us this year and he’ll get his opportunity,” Roughriders Head Coach & GM Chris Jones told reporters Friday in Toronto.  “We rotate a lotta guys anyway to make sure we’ve got plenty of depth.”

The 4-10 Roughriders face a 5-10 Argonauts squad who’s led by quarterback Drew Willy.  Despite a lacklustre performance in Monday’s 38-20 home loss to Calgary, Jones said they’ll need to be at their best to contain Willy.

“Drew’s a good player,” Jones cautioned.  “They gave up a first round pick to get him for a reason.  They saw things that they liked.  (Argo coach) Scott Milanovich is a very smart guy and (GM) Jim Barker is a very smart guy.  Again we gotta go out and play ‘A’ game football in order to beat this football team.

“They’re a very smart offense.  They know exactly how to move the football and they’ve done that all year long. We’ve just gotta go out and play solid man coverage and when we do play zone, know where the ball’s dictated to go.”

The Roughriders have been officially eliminated from the playoff chase with four games remaining so Jones was asked how they plan to attack the final four.

“We’re gonna treat the next four games – again – we want to do two things: we want to evaluate our quarterbacks and win the football game.  Those are our two goals.”

Might be a BIG crowd at the Argos Riders game today in Toronto with the Jays and Indians playing at the same time. I'll say around 9,000 and that will have to include workers.
