The Regina Red Sox dropped a 7-6 extra inning decision to the Medicine Hat Mavericks on Wednesday night.

Medicine Hat battled back from a 6-0 deficit to tie the game in the seventh inning before winning it in the 10th inning.  The winning run came into score on a throwing error by Regina catcher Will Frei.

Jonathon Nunnally, the sophomore outfielder from Scottsdale Community College, hit a massive three run homer in the bottom of the third inning to give Regina an early lead.

Regina also got incredible defence from centre fielder Jordan Schulz, who made a highlight reel diving catch to end a Medicine Hat offensive threat early in the game. Schulz also went three for five at the plate.

Red Sox starter Andrew Mirasty threw six complete innings before giving way to Skyler Henson. Mirasty faced 28 Maverick hitters surrendering five runs on just four hits. He also walked four and hit four batters.

Henson threw two innings before handing the ball to Sam Brunner, who was tagged with the extra inning loss.

Nolan Rattai was solid at the plate for the Mavericks. Rattai went 3-4 and drove in one run. Reliver Kal Kilgo was credited with the Maverick win. Kilgo struck out two and gave up one hit.

The Red Sox will hit the road for their next three games, a contest in Weyburn and a pair of weekend dates in Swift Current.  Regina returns to Currie Field on Monday, July 18 to host Melville. Game time is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
