GORDIE HOWE PASSES AT AGE 88
DETROIT – The man known as Mr. Hockey has died.
The Detroit Red Wings say Gordie Howe died today at age 88.Howe played 32 professional hockey seasons and won the NHL scoring title and MVP award six times each.He was known as a fierce, physical competitor who could beat you with his elbows or a deciding goal.The Gordie Howe hat trick – when a player scores a goal, records an assist and gets in a fight in one game – is named after him.Howe helped the Detroit Red Wings hoist the Stanley Cup four times and was a 21-time all-star.© 2016 The Canadian Press
One of the well known and most thought of Great Hockey Players to ever lace the skates coming out of the Province of Saskatchewan. No doubt the Best Player ever born in this Province. Mr. Hockey was "Just The Greatest" and that is on and off the ice as well. The Battle is over Mr. Howe. Thank You For All The Wonderful Memories. May You Rest In Peace.

Huge loss to our Province and our nation. Gordie defined what a "Saskatchewan" hockey should be. Tough, skilled with heart. None before him or after him has ever come out of this province that can match up. Considering most of his feats were done during the original six era, he's that much more amazing. Met him at a hockey banquet once. What a gentleman and down to earth guy you would ever want to meet. I hope all hockey fans young and old realize what this man was to our province and country.
He was "The Greatest". Just ask Wayne Gretzky. A true legend. The hockey world will truly miss him. RIP, Gordie.
Well said Willy…Gordie was my favorite player for many years..the total hockey player and super guy away from the rink as well. Proud to still have his autographed jersey hanging in my office.

Just heard the story of his first pair of skates, his mom helped a family in need by giving them money to get by and in return the family gave them a box of things to say Thankyou, a pair of skates being one of the items. Gordie's love of skating and hockey began. The generosity of his mother is a big piece of sports history as it turns out.
Incredible man, incredible legacy. The statue outside SaskPlace will have fans taking pictues and leaving tributes tonight before the show. No doubt Garth will have a tribute to him tonight being the big hockey fan that Garth is.
