RED SOX 15 BEAVERS 7

The Regina Red Sox pounded Weyburn Beaver pitching for 17 hits on route to a 15-7 victory at Tom Laing Park Tuesday night. The loss ended Weyburn’s two game winning streak.

Derek Slade, Will Frei and Aden Campbell lead the Red Sox offensive charge. Slade was 4 for 5 with a walk and 3 RBI while Campbell went 4 for 5 with a walk, a RBI and 4 runs scored. Frei chipped in with 3 hits, 2 walks, 3 runs and 5 RBI.

Regina starter Ben Schweinfurth faced 34 Beaver batters over seven innings for the win. Utah product Seth Sorensen pitched the eighth and Chase Nistor, from Regina, came on in the ninth inning.

Red Sox hitters chased Weyburn starter Scott Doucet after 2.2 innings. Doucet was tagged for the loss after giving up seven runs on eight hits and two walks.

With the victory Regina improves to 3-2 while Weyburn drops to 3-4.

The Red Sox road trip continues with a visit to Swift Current on Wednesday and Moose Jaw on Friday.

Regina returns home for a weekend set against the defending WMBL champion Lethbridge Bulls on Saturday and Sunday.
