SASKATOON – Mark Matthews had two goals and four assists and Robert Church had a goal and five helpers as the Saskatchewan Rush downed the Toronto Rock 13-8 on Saturday in National Lacrosse League action.
Dan Taylor, Ben McIntosh and Zack Greer each added a pair of goals for the Rush (9-3) while Curtis Knight, Jeff Cornwall, Ryan Dilks and Jeremy Thompson added the others.
With the win, the Rush clinched a spot in the NLL Playoffs.
Rob Hellyer led the Rock (3-9) with two goals and three assists. Turner Evans, Stephan Lablanc and Josh Sanderson had two goals apiece to round out the offence.
Saskatchewan’s Aaron Bold made 31 saves for the win. Brandon Millers topped 40-of-53 shots for Toronto.

The Rush has sold more merchandise in 12 games than Edmonton has sold in 10 years. The highest amount of jerseys sold was 1000, the Rush have sold 3000 and have to order more, over 13 000 on hand last night to see the Rush beat the center of the universe. It will be sold out come playoff time. What a game, what sport. Go Rush Go.
Another great game last night. Once they become available my wife and I are buying season tickets for next year,never thought I would say that going into this season. Saskatoon now has the 3rd highest attendance in the league averaging 10,800 per game with the average rising each week. This team has energized Saskatoon more this season than the Blades have in 20 years.
Very strange that this very old 1st Nations game is catching on in Stoon.
I've watched a game years ago and even played it in high school gym class.
Actually watched the student in goal get his front tooth knocked clean out of his mouth.
I for one just can't see this sport maintaining the high attendance year after year.
It's new to the city right now. Watch it dwindle over the next 5 years.
I, too am buying season tickets next season. Which is a thing I never thought I would say. Such a fast paced, physical, entertaining sport. Saskatoon is still learning the game, but we do know when to boo the refs or the other team after a bad call or cheap shot!
I encourage anyone from Regina to make the trip up to catch a game!
I don't see the Rush being a fad in Saskatoon. Ticket prices are reasonable and there is only a 9 game home season which is not a huge commitment of funds or time. The other thing that helps is that this is a winter-spring schedule so there is no overlap with the summer or Riders. Saskatoon sports teams do not draw well in the summer as a large part of the population heads out to the lake every weekend. Combine all of that with an excellent product and I do not see interest dwindling.
