BENEVIDES TO THE ESKIMOS

(Edmonton) – Three-time Grey Cup champion Mike Benevides has joined the Edmonton Eskimos coaching staff as Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator.

Benevides brings 15 years of CFL coaching experience to the Green and Gold.

He first entered the league’s coaching ranks in 2000 with the Calgary Stampeders as a defensive assistant. The following year, he served as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach en route to the Stampeders 2001 Grey Cup championship.

He also served as Calgary’s director of Canadian scouting where he was recognized as one of the league’s top talent evaluators.

In 2003, he went to BC where he would go on to win two more championships as part of the Lions coaching staff (2006, 2011).

Benevides spent five seasons as the Lions’ special teams coordinator and linebackers coach before his promotion to defensive coordinator in 2008. Following the team’s 2011 Grey Cup championship, he was named head coach.

He went on to set a team record for most wins by a first year head coach in club history with 13. That year, the Lions led the CFL in overall defensive and offensive categories for the first time in club history.

A native of Toronto, Ontario, he continued to play a key role in scouting for the CFL Canadian Draft with the Lions.

Benevides spent last season with the CFL’s exclusive television broadcaster TSN, contributing to the network’s comprehensive coverage as an analyst.

Prior to his CFL career, Benevides played nose tackle for Bakersfield College in California. He was a member of the school’s 1988 national championship team.

Right, because Benevides will make all the plays on defence after all Moes players ditch Edmonton for GREENER pastures.

Ask your mom for another bag of cheesies and back to whackin' it to "Keeping up with the Kardashians, leave talking about football to actual men who know what they are talking about.

Moes 4-14 in 2013, Riders GC Champs!!!!

Just as relevant in 2016 as the 2015 season.

Good pick up by the Moes, best defensive mind available, and he has HC experience in Maas' gets the wind caught in his dumbo ears and blown back to Ottawa.

I see the Moes fans finally figured out that it's spelled traitor and not trader in this context, about time the unwashed masses bought a dictionary.

This makes good sense as it gives a rookie head coach someone with experience who he can work with.

Word on the street is that Brendan Taman is set to be joining the TSN crew in 2016 and will head up a new feature called 'GM's Corner'.

Pff of course a hypocritical worthless Moes fan has too shoot his face off in defence of another useless Moes fan.

None of you Moes fans who come on this blog with your BS can be considered normal or human beings.

Go back to waiting by your mail box for your EI while your wife and daughter(and sons too?) get ready for another night on the streets :-).

First Anon comment… Why wasnt Jones a traitor when he was in Edmonton winning a Grey Cup? Your GM signed him away From Toronto when Jones still had a year left on his contract in Toronto? Jones was moving up from DC to HC in Edmonton. So he was bettering himself. Guess what bright one… He Now moved up from HC to GMHC in SK. So once again bettering himself.Im sure you feel he should have stayed just to satisfy you!Only juvenile football ignorant people use sarcasm… simply because it's the lowest form of witt.Just a little football knowledge for… Read more »

And nobody really cares at all about Moes fans …..

When you're the best, everyone tries to bring you down.

Moes fans have been silent the last 10 years because they didn't win and abandoned their team like the rats they are off a sinking ship.

Rider fans are the best, and as a result we have to listen to a lot of crap from eight teams worth of pathetic losers. That just makes it so much sweeter when we win 🙂

Talking about abandoning your team sounds like the sliders who had to have a phone telethon back in the 80s just to save this pathetic team and their fans from folding .lol SLIDERS ARE STILL 3-15 And The Eskies are the 2015 GREY CUP CHAMPS enjoy the basement whiners fans as you will be last for many many years to come .

Just as relevant in 2016 as the 2015 results.

It be awesome to see the ghost town that Alberta will become when you all abandone everything after the repo come for your meager possessions.

We kept the team alive and now reap the rewards. Nothing is going to be able to save Alberta lol

The riders missed the playoffs for 11 consecutive seasons… can you imagine what would happen in edmonton if the eskimos missed the playoffs for 11 consecutive seasons? Back in those days the eskimos were buying grey cups on a yearly basis due to the lack of a salary cap. It's no mystery why the eskimos have struggled mightily since the cap was instituted back in 2006. (*Drop mic)

Riders at least 9 wins in preparation for kicking everyone's ass at the new stadium in 2017.

A most entertaining comments section. Only thing I object to is your comment about abandoning our "meager possessions". Sorry but Alberta's wealth still makes Sask's look like pocket change. At least you didn't call us "blue-eyed sheiks".
