PFC: THUNDER 30 COLTS 20

The Regina Thunder (5-2) clinched home field in the first round of the playoffs with a 30-20 win on the road over the Calgary Colts (4-3) on Sunday afternoon. Colton Klassen ran for 175 yards and Jaeden Marwick threw two touchdowns in the victory for Regina.

In the first quarter Ashton Vien caught a touchdown pass from 4 yards out at 6:09 to give the Thunder the 7-0 lead and that was the only scoring of the frame.

In the second the Colts tied it up on a Dylan Minshull touchdown run at 2:52 and then took the lead on two straight Kyle Byrne field goals of 40 and 18 yards at 10:12 and 11:55 to lead 13-7. The Thunder responded with a Preston Bews touchdown catch at 13:43 to lead 14-13 at the half.

In the third quarter Kris Calcutt made it 17-13 with a field goal at 3:46 and then hit another at 9:38 and it was a 20-13 Thunder lead. However at 12:15 the Colts got the game tieing touchdown on a Jesse Kutz catch from John Kiesman and it was 20-20 heading to the 4th.

In the final quarter Victor St. Pierre-Laviolette made it a 27-20 Regina lead with a touchdown along the ground at 9:02. Kris Calcutt rounded out the scoring with his 3rd field goal of the contest at 14:18 and it was 30-20, that was the final score.

Defensively the Thunder were led in tackles by defensive back Marcus Hall with 4. Defensive lineman Matthew Williams recorded a sack and a fumble recovery. Ryan Filyk also recovered a lost fumble while Dustin Erbach picked up his 3rd interception of the year.

The Thunder wrap up the regular season on Sunday at home to the Edmonton Huskies at 1 o’clock at Mosaic Stadium.
