CHAMBLIN ADDRESSES RUMOURS

The Saskatchewan Roughriders got back to work Tuesday with Day 1 of their practice week as they prepare to visit the Toronto Argonauts on Saturday (5:00 pm Sask Time, TSN, CKRM Rider Radio Network).  Head coach Corey Chamblin addressed the rumours of his impending dismissal which surfaced over the weekend amid the club’s 0-6 start to the season.

ON HOW HE TOOK IT

CC: With a laugh.  With a laugh.  I didn’t read it.  I got all the texts and all those things.  Like I tell the players – and like I live my life – you can only control what you can control.  The decision is always up to those who have the power to make those decisions.  The decision was made, and here we are right now.

DID YOU THINK THERE WAS A CHANCE OF BEING FIRED?

CC:  Any chance?  I really didn’t put any speculation into it.  What I mean by that is I continue to go to work.  Like anything else, you should be prepared, the day you take that job, at some time we’ll all be relieved from our job whether it’s promotion or just getting out of here.  So I didn’t put a lot of thought into it, no.

DOES THE VOTE OF CONFIDENCE FEEL GOOD?

CC:  It’s the same vote of confidence those guys have given me.  I think that had to be done just to silence you guys and show the direction of the organization and where they were.  Those guys gave me that vote of confidence weeks ago.  That’s what it was, and we went forward.

Has this guy ever just answered a question?

Just listened to Chamblin's after practice interview. In my opinion he is not the same person/coach now as he was before this past weekend. The confidence is gone, anger seeps into his comments along with a lot of uncertainty. This past week end was a big deal on him and has really shook him up.

Just my read/opinion.

My god, with that stupid stadium being built, I sure hope we can start producing a winning team. Geez.

To anon #1, yeah I think he has been very patient and open with the media. More importantly, he has been able to live in the fishbowl that Regina is… Give him some credit!

——-
His problem is, and remains, that he refuses to distance himself from getting too involved with the defense. It's a micro-management thing and now he is in a bind.

As for Answering questions to the media… Would you rather have Greg Marshall?

Might as well play it out now and start some type of rebuilding part of this team. I don't think this is really a bad team, it is just that when you lose 2 Quarterbacks in one season and the D falls apart this type of losing streak will happen with any team. To bad this time it's the Riders. The young guys have to take over now and do the best that they can , that's all we ask until next year.

…"at some point we'll all be relieved from our job whether it's promotion or just getting out of HERE". Yup I can see where this is going. Always adding in more than he needs to. I like CC but his mouth will be his undoing. It's already got him into more hot water than was necessary. He could have said he's glad to have the BOD's confidence and that they will move forward trying to get better and win. Instead he takes a slap at "here".. I'm starting to lose my affinity for this guy.

My advice to Cory: keep answers to yes or no, do not elaborate no matter how silly and pointless the question.

After a 1-7 start to the 2011 season, the Roughriders fired Marshall on August 19, 2011.

15 days Corey.

What good does getting rid of Corey really do? He's a good coach and everybody knows that. Unless everybody honestly thinks he has lost the team and they have quit on him than I could maybe understand it but I don't see that. People are calling for Benevides and Lapolice to be hired, those guys are both available because they were fired(everybody gets hired and fired I know)… We have a good young coach who has only been here a few years, settle down.

The Regina media is clueless.

CLUELESS.

Chamblin saying he's laughed off the comments is all you need to hear.

Anyone smart enough to be good in the media is smart enough to find a career other than media.

Lapo was set up for failure and became the fall guy in winnipeg. His first year there the 4-14 record doesn't tell the whole story, they lost something like 9 games by 6 points or less, kind of like 4/6 games for us this year. Then took them to the grey cup the next year and had his team picked apart by the nfl and free agency and joe mack made no moves to bring anyone in to replace them. If he didn't have it so good at tsn i'm pretty sure he would be coaching somewhere. I'm not saying… Read more »

Is it just me or have the games not been as hard to watch this year? (Minus vs edm). I mean it hurts to have lost them all, especially being 0-4 at home, but 2013 playoffs excluded since the 7th or so game in '13 our offense with so many 2 and outs and sometimes getting outscored by our defense made them hard to watch for me. we've given up over 30 points in 5 games already this year which i'm pretty sure is more than all of 2013 and if we had given that many up over the first… Read more »

We suck. We have no depth. We have no future stars. Getzlaugh makes too much money. Blow it up exec, blow it up now and beg Tillman to come back!! Maybe just maybe we can have a 9-9 team by the time the new stadium opens.

lower the expectations rider nation…bring back 1979!i wonder if $9 million in merchandise sales is beatable this year? I realize injuries are a big part of this debacle but does the team have to lose all "heart",passion, and desire to be competitive? been through the 70's,80's and 90's…..ENUF ALREADY!!
