WILD RED SOX COMEBACK, LEAD SERIES 2-0
The Regina Red Sox offence got some clutch hitting late in the game and battled back from a 7-2 deficit to beat Yorkton 8-7 Monday night. The Red Sox now lead the best of five first round playoff series against Yorkton 2-0.
Red Sox starter Skyler Shaw-Fuss, a junior from Menlo College, was tagged with 10 hits and five runs in his 4.2 innings of work.
Head Coach Scotty Douglas used a bullpen by committee philosophy as local product Kendal Daniels, Andrew MacMahon, Tyler Vavra, Jeremy Sylvester and Louis Cohen made relief appearances against the Cardinals in the contest.
Tanner Stokey, the native of Goodyear, Arizona, provided the Red Sox with a highlight hitting reel as he went four for five with two runs scored and an RBI. Gabriel Montero, Gabe Snyder and Garret Hall also provided two hits each in the loss.
Regina second baseman Geoff Seto had a patient night in the batter’s box picking up three walks.
The Red Sox started to make some noise in the seventh inning scoring three runs to narrow the Cardinal lead to 7-5. They added one in the eighth to make it a one run game and completed the comeback in the ninth inning when Brandon Vaughn drove in Zach Weatherford for the winning run.
Another great crowd was on hand as close to 600 fans made their way to Currie Field on a perfect night for baseball.
