PRAIRIE MOBILE SATURDAY EYE-OPENER

The Women’s World Cup of soccer kicks off tonight (at 4 pm ST) as Canada plays China at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium. Canada is ranked eighth in the world, while China is number 16. Later, New Zealand faces the Netherlands.

Game 2 of the Stanley Cup final is tonight. Jonathan Toews and the Chicago Blackhawks look to build on their 1-0 series lead in Tampa Bay against the Lightning (at 5:15 p.m. ST). There’s already bad blood between the two teams — Chicago’s Andrew Shaw bit Victor Hedman in Game 1 after the Lightning defenceman shoved Blackhawks star Patrick Kane into the boards after a whistle.

Drew Hutchison will take the mound this afternoon as the Toronto Blue Jays host the Houston Astros. Brett Oberholtzer gets the start for Houston. Toronto is on a three-game win streak and is four-and-a-half games back of the New York Yankees for first in the AL East.

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray will continue their French Open semifinal match today. The match was shut down yesterday because of darkness and a storm with Djokovic leading after four sets. The winner will face Stan Wawrinka in the championship match tomorrow. After the men’s semifinal, Serena Williams faces Lucy Safarova for the women’s title.

Suzann Pettersen and Mariajo Uribe share the lead heading in to the third round of the Manulife LPGA Classic in Cambridge, Ontario. Both are tied 13-under 131. Hamilton’s Alena Sharp is the top Canadian at 7-under par.

All three of Canada’s Major League Soccer teams are in action tonight. First up, Toronto FC visits DC United. Then the Montreal Impact are in Ohio against the Columbus Crew. Finally, the Vancouver Whitecaps travel to Los Angeles to take on the Galaxy.
