JLB ELECTRIC GAME RECAP: WHEAT KINGS ELIMINATE PATS

Peter Quenneville’s even strength goal at 6:15 of overtime was the winner Friday night in Brandon as the Wheat Kings beat the Regina Pats 3-2 to clinch the second round best-of-seven series in five games.

Brandon jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first period thanks to a Nolan Patrick shorthanded goal at 12:52.  Regina grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second period thanks to goals by Jake Leschyshyn and Taylor Cooper and they carried that lead into the third.  However Patrick struck again for Brandon – at 13:39 of the third – to tie the game at 2-2 and send it to overtime.

That set the stage for Quenneville to launch the Wheat Kings into the Eastern Conference Final, and end the Pats’ season.  Brandon moves on to face the Calgary Hitmen, who eliminated Medicine Hat on Friday in the Saddledome.

Brandon outshot the Pats 51-27 and Regina goalie Daniel Wapple was named the game’s #2 star with a 48 save effort.  Quenneville was named first star while Patrick got the nod for #3.

The Pats were 0/5 on the powerplay and 5/5 killing penalties.

The attendance at Westman Communications Group Place was 4333.

Congrats Regina on a fine 2014-15 season!

Whoops. sorry Pats but that is exactly how I picked this series to go . Earlier this week I said Brandon in 4 or 5 and 5 it was. Pats had a good run but Brandon was just to much for them . Good on you Pats you showed up and never quit.

I am loving the look of this pats team. Can't wait until next year. Great season guys! The next couple of years are OURS.

What a great run for the Pats. They should be very proud of their accomplishments this season. I sure hope John Paddock stays around as he has moulded this team into a contender. They gave Brandon a scare. Not sure why Pilon played and Hobbs sat. Just another terrible decision by the WHL, but what should we expect when the Wheat Kings are involved. Can't wait till next year!!

High praise for this team, and I am not really a hockey fan. This team grabbed my attention for it's youth, it's calmness under pressure, it cohesiveness and it's gritty performance on the ice.I see only bigger and better things for the future. Kudos also to the new management and coaching staff!

It was gutsy effort by a very young team In addition to their youth, they were also very shorthanded as the result of some very suspicious circumstances. The league should be wearing goat horns on this one. The hockey was good with two games going to overtime. Anything can happen in OT, unfortunately neither game went their way. A time will come where it will. Brandon is a more talented and experienced team, not to mention their betterment in size. The Pats will need to address some of those deficiencies on the off season. if they do that combined with… Read more »

Brandon is very lucky that they did not get their ass handed to them. For a team who is rated so high and mighty a young group of very talented kids gave them a run for their money. In the first two games nerves and inexperience had played a big part in the first two losses for the Pats. Unfortunately with two suspensions and well lets say some very poor judgment in officiating, the Pats did not only play the Wheat Kings but the WHL officiating as well their front office. In the last two games it could of went… Read more »

Those crooked WHL refs let the wheat kings have twice as many shots on goal as the poor Pats. We all know that Kelly McCrimmon controls this…

No but doubled your shot total the last three games. Wapple played fantastic. He is a stud. Regina impressed me, I am a bwk fan. But enough with the league and wks the reffing was just not consistent at all, it was actually embarrassing. Next year the pats are in tough again, as Brandon is a year older and only losing 4-5 players. But the steel Patrick show is going to be fun to watch. I'm happy that by the looks of things it's going to be an east division powerhouse filled league. Brandon and Regina could model franchises which… Read more »

I don't get where you clowns think next year will be your year, Brandon returns 18 players and are set up for the next 3-4 years, plus they played without 4 top guys in this series. Good luck next year and the year after.

Lol. I would bet a lot of money that Brandon does not return 18 players next year.

I get a kick on how the Wheatkings fans come on here and tell us how good they are. Someone mentioned this Lubers Lounge blog for the WheatKings. I've never really understood going on another teams blog but decided to go onto Lubers and post a couple comments that were positive towards the pats. For whatever reason, he didn't post them.

I give credit to RP for letting all these blowhards take shots at the Pats unlike Luber.

But I still don't get why they come on here. Maybe cause nobody reads the WheatKing blog

The Pat's showed a lot of determination and grit in this series. For a young team they were impressive. The Pat's elevated their game much more than Brandon. I don't think the Wheat Queens elevated their game enough if at all for the playoffs. They need to do better against the Hitmen.

To the last anonymous,

It's obvious to me that your head is too big.Thats a trait most fans from Brandon seem to have. Why not our pats? You guys can be beaten and our pats will in time. You don't know what we have stockpiled for our future. No more losing for our pats anymore. It seems to me back then the wheatkings were a bunch of losers too and always at the bottom of the league. Anything can happen.

I was right too Anon 1 … before the series i said Brandon in four, but after the Pats won I said Brandon in five, six or seven … so we were both right.

We are so awesome.

"For a team who is rated so high and mighty a young group of very talented kids gave them a run for their money."

Pats played hard Dan, I give them credit. But let's not discount reality. Series was 4-1 and Brandon outshot and outchanced Pats in every game.

From a diehard Pats fan that watched 8 of nine playoff games.

With that loss all the pressure now turn on the Pats for the next few seasons.

After all this talk, anything less than challenging for first place and advancing to Eastern or League final will be a failure!

In the end they organization needs more to show that $3M wasted on a score clock.

Now that Paddock and his thugs have been eliminated, we can decide the winner of a hockey championship by playing hockey.

New owners, new coaches; same clown show. Must be something in the Regina water.

Hey Dan …. in case you didn't notice, the shots were 51 – 27 for Brandon. The PATS are very lucky that they did not get their ass handed to them.

You guys are children. I'm a Pats fan but clearly Brandon was the better team. Rough stuff happens during desperate playoff hockey. The Pats were certainly no more dirty than Brandon. Going forward this team is going to be a force for the next couple years. I'm getting season tickets next year. To say Regina has nothing to be excited for because Brandon is going to dominate for the next 3 years is stupid. The games need to be played. Just ask Swift Current who were considered contenders in pre season. I think it's clear Regina and Brandon will both… Read more »
