REGINA — The Regina Pats waited a little too long to get their motor running Friday night in the Brandt Centre and wound up suffering a 2-1 regulation loss to the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers.

After a scoreless first period in which the Pats outshot the visitors 13-11, Medicine Hat defenceman Ty Stanton peppered two point shots past Regina goalie Daniel Wapple in the second frame to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead going into the third.

The Pats continued to look sluggish well into the final period but when Wapple was pulled with just under three minutes remaining, they turned it on.

Regina’s Taylor Cooper banged a rebound past Tiger goalkeeper Marek Langhammer to make it 2-1 Tigers with 1:29 remaining.

The Pats’ Adam Brooks then wrung the iron behind Langhammer in the dying seconds and that’s as close as they would get. Time ran out on a 2-1 defeat.

Regina was outshot 40-28 on the night while going 0/4 on the powerplay and 7/7 killing penalties. One of the highlights of the evening was a third period fight between Regina’s Colby Williams and Medicine Hat’s Kyle Burroughs. The pair were long-time teammates with the Pats, and the tilt ended in a draw.

The attendance was 4201 as the Pats completed their homestand at 0-1-0-1.

Regina (33-20-4-4) visits Moose Jaw Saturday at 7 pm on 620 CKRM (Press Box Sports Bar Pregame Show at 6:35 pm) before returning home to host the Warriors Sunday at 6 pm.

We're you a little mad tonight there Rod? Throughout calling the game, you seemed to be in a fowl mood.

While the effort was poor, the team looked very tired and worn out. It was probably due to the Howe/Byblow combination. Howe in particular is as big a Pat killer as is Vetter. Paddock was frustrated with a check from behind in the first. A slew foot in the second, a trip in the second. A spear in the the second. Howe didn't catch any of these but he called some marginal penalties against the Pats and tried to give the extra minor any chance he could. He turned a blind eye to any Tiger infractions. In Christopher's case he… Read more »

What's the point of having a comment section on your blog if you're not going to allow any to post??

WERE WE AT THE SAME GAME? IT LOOKED TO ME LIKE THE PATS BLEW MULTIPLE POWER PLAY OPPORTUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE THIRD PERIOD… I DON'T WATCH MUCH HOCKEY, BUT THEY DEFINITELY HAD THEIR CHANCES AS WELL.

Rod keeps copy of all IP addresses that comment on his blog. He knows who the haters are and he's biding his time, watch your back people. He's coming to get you. LOL

Roddy is a better play by play with hockey than football. Nothing personal but it's the truth. Still the man's passion on the air is unmatched for either sport. Overall hockey is a far superior athletic sport than football. No comparison. Roddy knows the truth.

Is someone able to explain how the League determines the Playoff matchups ? Based on the current standings, Pats are to play Swift Current, but when I look at the standings I just can't figure out how that matchup (and others) are determined.

HA! IP addresses? They mean nothing. All they say is "this is a shaw internet subscriber" that's it. Blogger doesn't have that technology anyways.

I don't post as much as I used to and I'll tell you why. It took 7+ years to get to the point after 41 years in Regina that people here are as small minded and miserable as they come. The best thing to do is to not even pay them mind, but I do like to stir it up to prove how stupid people are. To say Rod is not as good a Football guy as a Hockey guy is like saying Bo Jackson, "you know he was better in the NFL than in the MLB" – You guys… Read more »

Confused in Regina. The WHL website explains the playoff format and match up, as posted the same as the NHL the league they are developing players for.
