THE WEDNESDAY THRILLER … WITH PHIL ANDREWS

Voice of the Pats Phil Andrews

Some thoughts and facts during this busy week.

1.) The Regina Pats completed the season sweep of the Saskatoon Blades on Monday with a 5-4 shootout win. The Pats went six and oh against their division rivals and swept the season series for the second straight year. 14 straight games.

2.) The magic number for the Pats to clinch the playoffs is two wins or two Moose Jaw losses. In all likelihood the Pats will make the post season for the second straight year and for the third time in four seasons.

3.) The Pats sit 8 points clear of Swift Current for second in the East Division with a game in hand. The Broncos won Tuesday night at home to Kootenay and now have 12 games left on their schedule. The magic number for home ice for the Pats in the first round is now 17 points.

4.) Adam Brooks has 5 points in the 3 games he’s played since returning from injury. The 18-year-old picked up right where he left off almost a month previous and led the team to three wins on the weekend. He has points in 10 straight games with 6 goals and 9 assists in that stretch. He sits a point back of Sam Steel for the team lead in scoring with 48 points.

5.) The same was true for Taylor Cooper in his return to action on Monday after missing 6 games. He scored and added a helper as well as the shootout winner.

6.) The Pats have 6 players with 40 plus points and three more who will likely eclipse that mark. Only the Brandon Wheat Kings have more players with 40 plus points in the WHL.

7.) How about this stat: Regina is one of 5 teams in the entire league with less than 20 losses. Calgary and Brandon are the only other two in the Eastern Conference.

8.) The Regina Pats are represented by four prospects at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Goaltender Jordan Hollett is 1-0 with Team BC stopping 21 of 24 shots in a 5-3 win over New Brunswick. Jake Leschyshyn, Erik Gardiner and Carson Welke are oh and 2 with Team Saskatchewan who lost 4-1 to Alberta and 2-1 to Quebec.

9.) The Medicine Hat Tigers have lost 9 of 11 games. Injuries have played a big part in that but it’s hard to fathom how far they have fallen. The Calgary Hitmen have taken over top spot in the Central Division as they have won 13 of 14.

10.) If the playoffs started today. In the East Brandon would host Edmonton, Regina would play Swift Current, Calgary vs Kootenay and Medicine Hat would take on Red Deer. Moose Jaw is 7 points out of a playoff spot. In the West Kelowna would play Tri-City, Victoria against Vancouver, Everett against Spokane and Portland would play Seattle. Prince George is 3 points out of a playoff spot.

Be sure to catch Wednesday night’s episode of Pats TV at 6:30 on Access 7. My guests tonight are Adam Brooks and Taylor Cooper.

That’s it from me today, have a great week, talk to you from the rink Wednesday night.

With all the new changes the new ownership has done has been nothing buy awesome. But one thing that needs to be looked at is the amount of fans that leave there seats during the play in a game and not at a stoppage in play. I have been going to games since i was a kid and my parents taught me to wait for a whistle to leave, but now its adults that are doing it as well. They use to announce not to leave seats during games over the PA system to help educate the fans of this.… Read more »

Also they should make sure that people stay in the section their ticket says. This now will be more important to make sure its enforce with the new pricing (Gold/Silver).
Its done at Rider games concerts etc.

It will not be as big a problem next season as the new ticket (both game day and season) pricing will asure smaller crowds and fewer youth. You can enjoy the quiet morgue like atmosphere

Went to a Flames game vs Canucks a couple weekends ago with family. My 6 and 4 year old were up against the glass watching warmups right when the Flames came out and the Saddledome staff swiftly came down and asked to see our tickets and told us to get out of that section, as it was not the ones on our tickets. They don't tolerate even being in up close section for 30 seconds of a warmup for little kids in the Big Leagues.
