RIDERS RELEASE SWAIN, SIGN HALL AND CLARK

Brett Swain

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today they have released international receiver Brett Swain.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today international defensive end Alex Hall has signed with the team. As per club policy, details of the contract were not released.

Hall (6’6 – 246) will return for his second stint with the Green and White and third CFL season after spending 2014 with the Carolina Panthers practice squad. The 29-year-old was first acquired by the Riders in October, 2013 in a trade with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Maryland native played 18 regular season games in 2013 – 14 with the Blue Bombers and four with the Riders – totaling 40 defensive tackles, five forced fumbles, and four tackles for loss while finishing second in the league with 16 quarterback sacks. He then added six defensive tackles in three playoff games as the Roughriders won the 101st Grey Cup.

Through his first two seasons, Hall has collected 71 defensive tackles and 25 quarterback sacks in 32 regular season games. He was named a CFL All-Star in 2013 and an East Division All-Star in 2012 and 2013.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today national free agent offensive lineman Dan Clark has re-signed with the team. As per club policy, details of the contract were not released.

Clark (6’2 – 310) will return for his fourth official CFL season with the Green and White after originally signing with the team in 2009 out of the Regina Thunder junior football program.

The 26-year-old Regina product played 16 regular season games in 2014, starting 10, while seeing action at guard and centre. He added a one yard touchdown reception – the second receiving touchdown of his 41 game career – on August 24th in B.C.

Clark won his first career Grey Cup with the Riders in 2013.

Wow, great work by Mr. Taman and O'Day. Roster is shaping up real fine. Riders will be a real contender in 2015. Look forward to the CFL draft where there are many interesting choices for a round 1 pick.

I am betting that the next signing will be either Kevin Glenn or Dan Lefevour.

Hickman, Curran, and Sears are three good players still on the market. Curran would be a good addition to replace Brian Peters. Not sure if we can afford him now though.

Absolutely a great signing gettin Alex Hall back. The Foley trade for Shea Emery has turned out to be a real winner. Chick on one end and Alex Hall on the other End. Emery in the Middle and Brackenridge waiting to smoke and recievers catching the ball behind the linebackers…. NICE!Now I would be careless if I didnt mention that I am concerned at our back up QB position. With Tino Sunseri not answering any of his calls. (Not that he's a great back up) at least he has some experience. We dont need another Willy that comes in and… Read more »

OK dumb question? Why did they wait so long to sign Clark? I was starting to get really worried we were going to loose him.

On behalf of Rider fans everywhere, nice moves so far BT & JO. I'm sure the changes aren't done yet but so far they look to be good.
The previous statement is not on behalf of a certain someone else who thinks it speaks on behalf of everyone but in reality speaks on behalf of only itself.

I'm a so called 'Taman basher' because from time to time I question his moves. But signing Hall makes me a 'Taman fan'. I'm thinking BT knew he was going to land Hall and thus Foley became the chip that was needed to land a real linebacker in Emry. Good move BT.

Didn't Dan Clark score as many TD's as Swain? Good to see him back in Green & white. Defense shaping up and offense putting its pieces together. Hopefully we can sign a decent backup QB too. Looking forward to the CDN draft and training camp.Go Riders

You're what's wrong with football fans. A know-it-all who talks down to everyone else and thinks they're some kind of football prodigy. Time to grow up

I never doubted Taman for a moment. You're just being a troll. Crying about how other people didn't like how day 1 was quiet. You're one of those people who gets mad at other people for showing any emotion whatsoever… and then when people are too quiet you'll whine too…

Obvious that clark didnt know his value so he waited to see what offers came in and when he realized riders were close he signed here. Taman has been working on hall since december. What that tells me is that he was confident hall would sign so foley became a pawn. Taman is becoming a grand master and is in the top three gms in the league right now.

But Woz, Jim Popp has a better hair style than Brendan Taman, so I would have to say Taman is in the top four GM's in the league.

@the Woz;

Taman is indeed foxy when it comes to proven performers but even you must admit his track record at recruiting new talent to the league leaves a lot to be desired.

Well done, BT! Hall is a terrific signing and as far as Hurl goes, he didn't want to be here anyway. McDougall will fill that void for many years to come.

Hall a surprising and great signing. Clark good signing and letting Hurl go good choice. Swain, I don't know why he never got a chance here * or Tolston.

Henry Burris coming back to Saskatchewan to form a 1-2 punch ala JJBarnagle, Henry getting the #1 starting position to kick off the 2015 FFL season.

JJBarnagle was a bad experiment for this franchise. Stop mentioning it. You're insane if you think the riders were even respectable during that Era. Hufnagel is one of the worst QB's to ever play for the Riders… worse than Terence Jones
