RIDERS BRING BACK J-RICH

REGINA – Jamel Richadson is returning to the city where he started his CFL career.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Monday they have signed the veteran international wide receiver to a contract.

The six-foot-three, 215-pound native of Syracuse, N.Y., returns to the CFL after missing a season and a half of football.

He tore the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee midway through the 2013 season while practising with the Montreal Alouettes. He missed the remainder of the 2013 season and was cut by the Alouettes before the 2014 campaign.

The 32-year-old started his career in Regina in 2003 and played his first four seasons with the Roughriders.

After missing the 2007 season to attend training camp with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, he returned in 2008 with the Alouettes.

THE NEWS RELEASE:

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today that international free agent receiver Jamel Richardson has signed with the team. As per club policy financial details of the contract were not released.

Richardson (6’3 – 215) returns to Saskatchewan for a second stint after originally entering the Canadian Football League with the Green and White in 2003. The Victor Valley College product spent four seasons with the Riders where he registered 113 receptions for 1,471 yards and four touchdowns in 30 regular season games.
Richardson missed the 2007 CFL season as he attended training camp with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys before returning in 2008 with the Montreal Alouettes. He spent the next six seasons with the Al’s where he amassed 6,603 yards and 48 touchdowns on 473 receptions in 88 regular season games.
For his career, the 32-year-old currently sits 39th in CFL history with 8,074 receiving yards. He has recorded 24 career 100-yard games on his way to being named a CFL All-Star twice (2008, 2011) and a four-time East Division All-Star (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011).
He has won two Grey Cup championships (2009, 2010) and was named the game’s MVP in 2010 after leading the contest with 109 receiving yards on eight receptions.

Were they lacking veteran leadership on the Riders? Hoping they didn't step up to the plate on him money-wise.

This signing looks better if the calendar read 2011 not 2014. Let me know when the Riders actually find a receiver instead of signing FA’s all the time.

Riders definitely need some height in their receiving corps, he has a recognizable name in the CFL, so there’s no risk in giving him a shot at camp.

A lot younger than Geroy was when they brought him in in 2013. I guess training camp will be the test to see if he still has enough mojo to bump out another old, season vet player like Taj Smith.
The best part would be if the Riders enticed S.J. Green to follow his buddy to Sask.

This reminds me of the Esks taking a shot on Adarius Bowman when nobody wanted him. Low risk high reward. Smart signing by the Riders

Riders should give Jay Cutler a look for back-up in 2015.

Interested to see how he's recovered from the torn ACL & LCL in his left knee. Could be a good insurance policy if WD7 doesn't resign.

The last couple years he didn't have a QB who could get him the ball, hence his numbers plummeted. When AC was delivering the ball to him, his play was off the charts. He could be a an asset for a year or two.. We definitely needed bigger receivers and this help but we need more. More and maybe younger. Assuming the cost wasn't too high this may end up being a depth and value added addition. Particularly in light of the status of our free agent receivers. We need more, much more.

Looks like a Jason Clermont re-do to me, with one difference – At least Clermont is a homebrew. Whatever.

Good signing … the Riders have been lacking big receivers for several years. If he is healthy, he'll be a great addition. If not, he'll be released.

Sure am glad that the lunatic fringe that posts on here isn't part of team management. The Riders would have to fold the franchise within 2 years because of stupidity!

On the surface it doesn't look that good. Previously injured 32 year old training camp cut in 2014 but depending on how he re-rehabilitated maybe….just have to wait and see. Could be a huge signing or more likely training camp fodder.

What's the harm in giving him a shot?

sure hasn't looking for signing other team old guys….need speed not age…..too many veterans receivers that are not performing at championship level anymore….is this signing for ticket sales or evidence that the recruiting is still in the dump.No way you can compare him to Geroy
! Come on riders do some scouting for young talent.

The Riders claim to be the model franchise. On the road they outdraw all the others, at home the stadium rocks. More than the other teams combined for merchandise sales. But I'm willing to bet in the last five years they've brought fewer players into the league than any other team. We have to find some new talent— not retreads.
