REDBLACKS HIRE MAAS AS O.C.

OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS of the Canadian Football League have hired Jason Maas and have named the 39-year-old native of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin the team’s offensive coordinator.

Maas is a former quarterback in the CFL, most notably for the Edmonton Eskimos where he played for 10 seasons (2000-2005; 2008-2011). He was named the most outstanding player for the Eskimos in 2001 and 2004 and was a member of Grey Cup championship teams in 2003 and 2005.

In 2004, Maas had a banner season, throwing for 5,274 yards and 31 touchdowns. He set a CFL record completing 22 consecutive passes in a game, a mark that stands 10 years later.
Maas also played for Hamilton and Montreal before returning to Edmonton to finish his career with the Eskimos.

After retiring following the 2011 season, Maas joined the Toronto Argonauts as a receivers coach but began the 2012 season as quarterbacks coach.

“Jason has many qualities that make him a great coach with a bright future.  His positive approach to teaching brings out the best in the players.  His outstanding work ethic and ‘can-do’ attitude are infectious and help to create a winning team atmosphere,” said REDBLACKS head coach Rick Campbell, who was with the Eskimos as an assistant coach during Maas’ first tenure in Edmonton.

“He has an outstanding knowledge of the CFL, the game and its players and we know that having him as a member of our staff is going to help our team.”

Maas played high school football in Arizona and was considered among the top quarterbacks in the state during his senior year. He played collegiate football at Oregon.
