VANCOUVER – Ricky Ray threw for two touchdowns as the Toronto Argonauts beat the B.C. Lions 40-23 in CFL action Friday night.

Toronto posted only its third win over B.C. in 14 meetings since 2008.

The Argos (4-8) gained sole possession of first place in the East Division as they won for the first time in last five games. The Lions (7-5) suffered their first loss in three outings as their home record dropped to 3-4.

Rookie LaVon Brazill, Steve Slaton, Curtis Steele and Chad Owens – who returned after missing two games with a leg injury – scored Toronto’s touchdowns as the Argos led from start to finish. Toronto’s remaining points came via Swayze Waters and a safety conceded by B.C.

The Lions got touchdowns on receptions from Emmanuel Arceneaux and Bryan Burnham, and another score on a one-yard plunge from backup quarterback John Beck. Kicker Paul McCallum accounted for the other B.C. points.

The Argos were solid throughout, showing few signs of fatigue after they stayed out west instead of returning home following a tough loss in Calgary last weekend in which they squandered a 29-3 lead –  the largest in their history.

Both Paul McCallum and Chris Milo may have to ask for a refund from their kicking guru Mr. Sweet. They both seem to have lost their mojo.

BC in trouble! Glenn is not the answer as he is too old. The OC lacks imagination in playbook. The defence bends to break ( can anyone tackle besides Saully and Bighill?). All other teams have young and up and coming qbs why is BC the exception? Time for changes fire the coach (is Wally past it?) bring in a new kicker and OC. Believe me I used to play peewee and now coach and attend all the games. The only way out is to make changes note the riders brought in another young qb. We always used young qbs… Read more »

Last Anon… Glen too old??? Give me a break! he's 35 and still in his prime. So what Ricky Ray is too old too? Give your head a shake! Last year Glen guided the Stamps to a 14 win season. The problem is not Glen! 1st year OC and DC in BC. There is your biggest adjustment. The game plan in BC by these new cooridinators is the issue. They havent figured out how to use their weapons.
As for young and up coming QB's. Watch Tino tomorrow. He is not much of an up and commer!

Glenn is their only hope! A new QB to develop would be something for 2015 and 2016 if Lulay is toast.

By the way, Solomon Eliminian's stats are off the charts. He has to be the defensive MOP in 2014 (with all due respect to John Chick).

BC does have some good young talent but when your QB is like Buck Pierce (brittle), you have to get another qb to develop and quickly. But no problem here seeing the Lions in the basement for a few years.

A know it all Rider fan.
