SUNDAY ALOUETTES UPDATE

Sherbrooke, June 8, 2014 – It is without a doubt much easier throughout training camp to notice nice offensive plays, as fans will react more to a beautiful catch as they will to a pass knockdown. But make no mistake, the Alouettes defence is once again having a strong training camp.

Sunday, defensive players were quickly getting to the quarterback, which would normally result in a sack had it happened in a regular game, but during training camp, the player moves aside and lets the pivot complete the play.

“We coach our guys to get to the quarterback and even when they accomplish that, we expect our guys to keep covering and continue their pursuit of the ball,” explained Alouettes defensive coordinator and assistant head coach, Noel Thorpe. “We let the offence finish the play so they get to work on their efficiency as well.”

For the past few days now, receivers and defensive back have been exchanging unkind words as the intensity keeps climbing after more than a week of facing off on a daily basis. The players have most likely circled the date of June 14 on their calendar, as they will finally face a different foe in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats players.

Rapid Fire

Receiver S.J. Green started the morning session with a bang, when he made a long and spectacular catch in the end zone…Chad Johnson scored two touchdows on Sunday, including a spectacular catch in the corner of the end zone. Even the defensive players were clapping… The longest play of the day belonged to receiver Duron Carter who completed a 75-yard play on a Tanner Marsh pass to reach the end zone.

Before going out on the field, the Alouettes added offensive lineman Elliott Mealer (Michigan) to the roster. Cornerback Laron Scott was released.
