ARGOS GRAB EMRY, MITCHELL

The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that free agent linebacker, and former East Division Most Outstanding Canadian and East Division Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Shea Emry has signed with the club through the 2016 season.

Commented Argonauts General Jim Barker, “Shea is someone who is very familiar to our coaching staff and it was important for us to get him under contract. He is a proven winner and a very good veteran player who we believe will have a strong presence in our locker room. We are very happy to have him with us in Toronto.”

A two-time Grey Cup champion (2009 & 2010), Emry has spent his entire CFL career with the Montreal Alouettes playing predominantly at linebacker as well as on special teams. The seventh overall pick in the 2008 CFL Draft, Emry has been a dominant force on the Alouettes defence for the past six seasons amassing 261 total tackles, 13 sacks, three (3) fumble recoveries and four (4) interceptions, one (1) of which he returned for a touchdown.

Shea Emry remarked, “I have many strong relationships with players in Toronto and I know there is a winning culture in the locker room. I am eager to rejoin coaches Scott Milanovich, Tim Burke and Marcus Brady, all of whom I enjoyed playing for previously in Montreal. It was an easy decision to make this move as I believe the organization has been headed in a positive direction. I look forward to training camp and the opportunity to work toward winning another championship.”

Toronto – The Toronto Argonauts Football Club announced today that it has signed free agent non-import OL Scott Mitchell.  Mitchell was granted free agency at 12 noon ET today.

Commented Argonauts General Manager Jim Barker, “Scott is a talented, young Canadian lineman who was a very good collegiate prospect coming out of a large U.S. football program. He now has three years of professional experience in our league and we look forward to seeing him develop with us in Toronto.”

A highly touted collegiate prospect, the Edmonton Eskimos made Mitchell the second overall pick in the 2011 CFL Draft. An Ottawa, Ontario native, he joins the Argonauts after spending the past three seasons with the Eskimos where he appeared in 16 games, including a start against Toronto in the Eastern Division Semi-Final in 2012.
