CORTEZ, LAPOLICE PASS ON LIONS

Vancouver radio station News 1130 says both George Cortez (pictured) and Paul Lapolice have turned down the B.C. Lions’ vacant offensive coordinator position.

Lapolice appears headed back to TSN as a popular analyst for at least another season while we’re expecting (hoping) Cortez will return to the Roughriders for 2014.

News 1130 says the Lions are now looking for a fresh, new face as their OC. The station also reports the Riders have granted the Lions permission to speak with QB coach Khari Jones and the interview occurred Wednesday.

Good. Coaches' salaries don't count against the cap so note to Taman: Give Chamblin, Cortez and Hall what they want and lock them up for a long time. They all proved their worth this past season. I don't think anyone can dispute that.

I agree about Cortez and Chamblin let them write their own contract. I think Chamblin had quite an influence on the defence.

Taman hires Chamblin…..it is up to Chamblin on which coaches he wants and for how long. I am on board with locking those guys up though.

Good coaches make for a better team. Talent will take you so far. Good coaching can cover for lack of talent. We have both talented players and good coaches. Pay them well and encourage them to keep this thing going for a few years so we can shut up all the "4 cups in 101 years" BS comments we have to endure. Go Riders

This whole "4 cups in 101 years" crap isn't even accurate.

The west division wasn't even invited to compete for the Grey Cup until 1921.

Technically, the Riders have 10 LEAGUE Championships in their 102 year history.

I wouldn't sugarcoat it. We've still got a poor history in Grey Cups. That said, it's a new era and losing in the championship game is no longer acceptable. Drive for five in Vancouver next year!

What have you done for me lately;

GREY CUPS in last 30 years;

5 – BC & Toronto
4 – EDM & Calgary
3 – Sask, Winnipeg & AL's
2 – Hamilton
1 – Baltimore
0 – Ottawa

Poor, poor Winnipeg. 3 Grey Cups in 50 years and a big fat zero since 1990. Looks good on 'em.

And what is this strange new feeling? Bragging about Riders successes? I like it!

The comment about good coaching is spot on. Knowing how to create something with what you got. knowing how to exploit other teams weaknesses. Knowing how to adjust and improvise. Recognizing players true abilities and limitations. Successful guys breed success and they instil it into an organization. I would like to see this team become a big green machine where if one piece leaves you replace it with another good one, and keep rolling. We can't let ourselves eroded bit by bit like we did after the 07 GC. 08,09,10 were ok years but nobody remembers or cares unless you… Read more »
