GEROY’S THOUGHTS ON THE WESTERN SEMIFINAL
Roughrider slotback Geroy Simon could play a prominent role in Sunday’s CFL Western Semifinal against the B.C. Lions with fellow receiver Chris Getzlaf still down with a knee injury. Geroy met with reporters after Thursday’s practice and discussed the showdown:
WILL YOU BE A BIG STORYLINE GOING INTO THIS GAME?
No I think all that stuff doesn’t matter anymore. We’re here to win a football game. We’re focused on winning and taking care of what we have to take care of.
WHAT HAPPENS IF GETZLAF CAN’T PLAY?
We just have to play within the scheme and if that calls for me to make more plays and catch more footballs then I’m prepared for that. These are the type of games that you just go out and play. You lay within the system, and just execute to the highest level that you can because there’s no more ‘next week’. It’s win or go home and that’s what we have to focus on.
ON FACING HIS OLD TEAM
It doesn’t matter that they’re my old team. They’re the enemy right now. Yah we’re friends off the field but we’re just focused on winning the football game.
ON WHAT HE REMEMBERS FROM THE 2008 AND 2008 SEMIFINALS IN REGINA
In ’08 I remember winning and in ’10 I remember losing.
ON PLAYOFF GAMES BETWEEN THE RIDERS AND LIONS
Playing in these games in the playoffs have been very intense, probably some of the most intense games that we’ve had in those years. I expect pretty much the same thing but we’re gonna try to take care of winning.
Geroy could be the X factor in this game on Sunday. Some may think that he's too old and washed up but he's shown some flashes of the old brilliance at times this season. When you are in a playoff game as intense as this one will be it will be one or two spectacular plays that will make the difference.
