COME ON DOWN TO WINNIPEG!
*UPDATE* – On Friday morning TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor confirmed the validity of Rod’s report from Thursday afternoon that Winnipeg has been selected as the CFL Bubble City.
Naylor Tweeted: “As first reported by @RodPedersenShow, the CFL’s focus for return to play is indeed Winnipeg. Not a done deal, and still needs agreement with province, players, feds and broadcaster (TSN). Lots of hurdles to clear still and lots could change.”
Here’s Rod’s initial report:
– A CFL source told The Rod Pedersen Show Thursday afternoon that the City of Winnipeg has been chosen as the CFL Hub City in the event that the CFL plays games in 2020.
The tip came with the strong caveat that I-G Field will host games only if the CFL finds the formula to return to the field this summer or fall. There have been reports that Saskatchewan, Edmonton, Hamilton and Winnipeg were all vying to host games in a Quarantine City format.
TSN and Sportsnet have reported in the last week that the CFL was only considering one city as an option to host games as opposed to the NHL which is expected to name both Edmonton and Toronto as Hub Cities for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
