FRIDAY COMMENTARY – THE PREDICTION

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary at 9:50 am and 5:20 pm on Cat Country 98 FM)

WELL THIS IT.

THE FINAL FOOTBALL GAME OF THE YEAR GOES THIS SUNDAY AND IT HAPPENS TO BE THE BIGGEST – SUPER BOWL 55 IN TAMPA BAY, FLORIDA.

30-PLUS YEARS IN THIS BUSINESS HAS MADE ME A TAD CYNICAL AND JADED SO I WAS NOT INITALLY BUYING INTO THE HYPE THAT THIS IS THE “GREATEST SUPER BOWL MATCH-UP EVER”.

BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT, IT VERY MUCH LIKELY IS AND THAT’S GOT ME TREMENDOUSLY EXCITED FOR SUNDAY’S 5:30 KICKOFF BETWEEN THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS AND THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS.

I MEAN, THE STORYLINES ARE MANY. AND THEY PRETTY MUCH ALL REVOLVE AROUND BUCS QUARTERBACK TOM BRADY.

WHEN HE DIVORCED FROM THE PATRIOTS A YEAR AGO AND LANDED WITH A YOUNGER, HOTTER PARTNER IN TAMPA, I WAS HAPPY FOR HIM. BUT A SUPER BOWL APPEARANCE SEEMED LIKE A PIPE DREAM.

NOW, HERE THEY ARE. AND BRADY HAS LED HIS BUCS TO BE THE FIRST HOME TEAM TO APPEAR IN A SUPER BOWL IN NFL HISTORY.

TOM CERTAINLY HAS A FLAIR FOR THE DRAMATIC.

BUT THE BIGGEST STORY IS THE MAN ON THE OTHER SIDE, CHIEFS QUARTERBACK PATRICK MAHOMES, AND THE MATCH-UP AGAINST BRADY. MANY HAVE TABBED MAHOMES “THE NEXT ONE”. IF THE 25-YEAR OLD HAS ANY DESIGNS ON BECOMING THE NFL’S BEST QUARTERBACK EVER, THEN THIS SUNDAY’S GAME IS A “MUST WIN” FOR HIS CHIEFS.

IT’S NOT THE LAST KICK AT THE CAN FOR BRADY, WHO SAID THIS WEEK HE WANTS TO PLAY PAST AGE 45. HE’S 43 NOW.

BUT AS WE’VE WRITTEN AND SAID HERE MANY TIMES, ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SAYINGS IN SPORTS IS, “WE’RE HERE. WE MIGHT AS WELL WIN IT.”

THE SAME GOES FOR TAMPA BAY.

BUCS BY 7.
