FRIDAY COMMENTARY – ONLY IN THE CFL?

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

TRY AS SOME AS MIGHT TO CHANGE IT, THE CFL WILL ALWAYS BE THE CFL.

AND THAT’S NOT NECESSARILY A BAD THING. TAKE, FOR INSTANCE, THURSDAY NIGHT’S OPENER TO WEEK 10 IN THE CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

THE WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS WERE LOOKING TO SWEEP MONTREAL IN A BACK TO BACK SERIES AND UP THEIR RECORD TO 10-0 FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1960.

OVER 31-THOUSAND BOMBER FANS WERE THERE AND WINNIPEG IS WELL ON THE WAY TO LEADING THE CFL IN ATTENDANCE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER.

THEY REMAIN THE CFL’S MARQUEE FRANCHISE AND ARE SHOWING NO SIGNS OF SLOWING DOWN.

WELL, EXCEPT FOR THURSDAY NIGHT AS WINNIPEG KICKER MARC LEGGHIO HAD OTHER IDEAS. IN A GAME THAT WAS QUITE A SNOOZE FEST THROUGHOUT, IT ACTUALLY WENT TO OVERTIME AT 17-17 AND LEGGHIO MISSED ON A 37-YARD FIELD GOAL WHICH WOULD’VE TIED IT AND SENT THE GAME TO A SECOND OVERTIME SESSION.

THE ALOUETTES BENCH ERUPTED. THE BOMBER BENCH DEFLATED. PANDEMONIUM IN THE SLURPEE CAPITAL.

IT’S NOT EXACTLY AN “ONLY IN THE CFL” MOMENT, BUT IT WAS A DRAMA TWIST NO ONE SAW COMING.

SO ONE BIG STORYLINE IN THE CFL IN 2022 HAS FALLEN. WINNIPEG WILL NOT GO 18-0.

WHAT ARE THE OTHERS? WELL NATHAN ROURKE IS BY FAR #1. THE BC QUARTERBACK LEADS HIS TEAM INTO CALGARY ON SATURDAY IN A GAME VOTED CANADA’S GAME OF THE WEEK.

ANOTHER STORYLINE IS YOUR ROUGHRIDERS. TSN’S MILT STEGALL SAID THIS WEEK SASKATCHEWAN IS THE MOST DISAPPOINTING TEAM IN THE CFL THIS SEASON.

THERE’S STILL TIME TO TURN IT AROUND, BUT WILL THEY?

IT STARTS ON SATURDAY AGAINST AN EDMONTON TEAM WHICH HAS LOST 11 STRAIGHT AT HOME AND HASN’T WON HERE SINCE 2019.

SO THERE’S ANOTHER STORYLINE.

IF ONLY MORE PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT THEM.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY
