FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: GURLEY, POUPART & TONS OF CFL TALK

Fridays are reserved for the gridiron and we got down and dirty with loads of NFL & CFL talk on Episode #829 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:

• RP & Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) A Thursday night CFL slobberknocker saw Winnipeg down Calgary 31-29 (has Bo Levi started his last game for the Stampeders?), 2) Thursday NFL preseason results plus a joint-practice brawl between the Rams and Bengals, 3) In our daily NHL team outlook we examined the NY Islanders on Friday (they need offense and new coach Lane Lambert is their X-Factor, 4) The Blue Jays sweep the Red Sox 6-5, 5) It’s a CFL Friday Night Football doubleheader with Hamilton at Toronto followed by Saskatchewan at BC (could it be Cody Fajardo’s last start as a Rider?), and 6) Mike Babcock steps down as head coach at the UofS and RP says the rumour is he’s headed to the Brandon Wheat Kings!
• We went deeeeeeep into this week’s CFL games and Rod pointed out Stamps QB Jake Maier had a 150.0 efficiency rating despite losing at Winnipeg. It would be shocking if Maier DOESN’T start Calgary’s next game, the Labour Day Classic versus Edmonton. The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: What’s the likeliest landing spot for Bo Levi Mitchell – BC, Sask, XFL or Other? At press time “Other” was leading with several viewers expecting him to be traded to the CFL’s East Division.

• 

  Sports Illustrated All Dolphins publisher/writer Alain Poupart joined the show from South Florida to preview the Miami Dolphins season. The former Quebec’er said the Fins won’t be as good as new receiver Tyreek Hill boasts, but they also won’t be as bad as ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith predicts. Poupart went all though the Dolphins roster and coaching staff (including new head coach Mike McDaniel) and predicts a good season in Miami. Alain and Rod ran out of time so Poupart said he’s happy to come on again soon!

• In Hour 2 we had a special treat as former Browns & Packers WR Tori Gurley joined the show for an expansion NFL chat and Fantasy Football Preview. (Tori feels you should take Patrick Mahomes with your #1 draft pick!) Tori answered dozens of questions and came out with some gems, like saying the Dallas Cowboys are in trouble, the Packers will be fine despite all of their offensive changes, and he wished Cleveland well in the Deshaun Watson mess since he has a close personal relationship with Browns owners, the Haslam family.
• Moose returned for the final two segments and the guys put a bow on the week, looked ahead to some great football, and vowed to meet again on Monday!
• Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was The Sports Doctor, Dave Petrishen. Friday’s was Tori Gurley!
