FOOTBALL FRIDAY RUNDOWN: MCEVOY, MADANI, NAYLOR & MORE

Fall is for football! We kicked off the biggest weekend of the year for Canadian football on Friday’s Episode #834 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The biggest high school game in Florida Friday night was in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Rod will be attending to watch former Argo WR Matt Dubuc’s state champion Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs defend their turf, 2) A preview of all the CFL’s Labour Day Weekend match-ups, 3) Thursday’s NCAA football highlights, 4) Canada West football kicks off its season Friday night in Winnipeg and Calgary and Moose has the call of the Rams & Bisons, 5) NFL Notes: Tua Tagovailoa is named a team captain for the Dolphins and 6) Our Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre daily poll question was: Would you mortgage your team’s future in order to win a championship? At press time over 80% of respondents said yes.
  • Sportsnet’s Arash Madani joined the show from Pittsburgh where the Blue Jays open a weekend series with the Pirates. Arash got into the CFL topics, including why the Roughriders haven’t done more to improve their team in the second half of the season? He also discouraged the idea of the Edmonton Elks being sold to a private owner, saying it’s a shaky proposition given the current state of CFL ownership. Regarding the Blue Jays, Arash feels the team has the potential to go on a World Series run but cautioned that “potential” is a dangerous word.
  • BC Lions Co-GM Neil McEvoy joined the show for a very informative chat. Regarding NFL interest in Lions star quarterback Nathan Rourke, Neil said, “If the NFL wants him, they’ll get him” despite the fact he’s under contract to BC in 2023. He also said he’s happy that Rourke has lived up to their expectations. Regarding this week’s trade to acquire QB Vernon Adams due to Rourke’s injury, McEvoy said it was tough to give up a first round pick but he’s a big believer in Adam’s abilities and feels he’s poised to do great things.
  • In Hour 2 we were joined by TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor who reported it’s a foregone conclusion that the Montreal Alouettes will be sold in the wake of owner Gary Stern stepping away from the team. Regarding Nathan Rourke, Naylor said NFL scouts felt all Rourke needed was some pro experience and now that he has it, it’s reasonable to expect him to head to the NFL next season regardless of his contract situation in the CFL.
  • Thursday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Ducks podcaster Annie O’Donnell. Friday’s was Dave Naylor!
  • If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/11 pm MT on Game+ TV, on our YouTube Channel or on WQEE 99.1 FM in Atlanta, GA.
  • Enjoy Labour Day Weekend and we’ll see you Tuesday on Game+ TV and YouTube Live!
