MONDAY RUNDOWN – FREROTTE, KEENAN & MORE

We recapped a headspinning sports weekend and looked ahead to another great week on Monday’s Episode #839 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NFL Week 1 notes including Dak Prescott’s injury, the Titans blowing one against the Giants, the Falcons blowing it against the Saints and much, much more, 2) A recap of Week 14 in the CFL: MTL 31 BC 10, TOR 24 OTT 19, WPG 54 SASK 20 and CGY 56 EDM 28, 3) Nick Suzuki is named the youngest captain in Montreal Canadiens history and a Boston Bruins season preview, 4) The Blue Jays open a key homestand beginning with the Rays on Monday, 5) A Week 2 Canada West and NCAA Football wrap, and 6) September 11 tributes in sports.
  • 15-year NFL QB and Pro Bowler Gus Frerotte was scheduled for Hour 1 but had to push the interview into Hour 2 so Rod and Darren went deep on more CFL stuff including the future of Bo Levi Mitchell, the flu bug which ravaged the Riders and why the B.C. Lions can’t win without Nathan Rourke.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Can the Cowboys make the playoffs without Dak Prescott? At press time 94% of respondents said no.
  • In Hour 2 Saskatchewan Rush GM Derek Keenan joined the show for an expansive look at the team’s six picks in Saturday’s NLL Draft, reviewed the franchise’s draft success over the years, and Keenan said about 40% of NLL draftees will go on to play in the NLL. Derek said there are only a handful of spots open on the Rush roster however since they missed the playoffs last year, there may end up being more. Rush training camp opens November 5.
  • Frerotte finally appeared in the Overtime (last) segment and had plenty of great NFL observations including the hot take that the Cowboys offense was “pathetic” even with Prescott in Sunday’s loss to Tampa Bay. Gus lives in Pittsburgh and said the Steelers win at Cincinnati wasn’t really an upset. He likes the way Pittsburgh handling the starting QB situation, going with Mitch Trubisky and grooming Kenny Pickett. Frerotte also offered his thoughts on why Tua is 4-0 versus New England and Tom Brady is 7-0 against the Cowboys.
  • Friday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was NFL Network’s Cynthia Frelund. Monday’s was Derek Keenan!
