THURSDAY COMMENTARY – THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE

Consider today’s commentary to be your bi-yearly warning to take what you hear from the NFL with a grain of salt.
Oh, and don’t hold athletes up as role models for your kids either.
You never should have, but definitely not now.
For starters, everyone seemed shocked when news came down Wednesday that Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams was charged with misdemeanour assault for shoving a photographer in Kansas City after the loss on Monday Night Football.
What’s so shocking?
You can’t lay your hands on another human being, and it’s not like there was no video to support the incident.
Someone foolishly said, “But Davante was upset!”
Ummm, so what? What a world we’d live in if we went around assaulting others just because we were upset!
Here’s truly hoping that Adams learns his lesson after this incident, and the public learns a valuable lesson too.
And also, I can’t find anyone in pro football who believes the claim that NFL referees were not told to clamp down on Roughing The Passer calls in Week 5 after the uproar over Tua Tagovailoa’s head issues.
The chintzy calls on Sunday and Monday caused an uproar the other way, prompting broadcaster Troy Aikman to say the NFL needs to “take the dresses off”.
Surely the NFL is rhetorically asking, “So what exactly do you want?”
The answer is simple: Fans want a violent game where no one gets hurt.
And lastly, regarding using athletes as role models, that’s never been a good idea. That’s not to say they’re bad; Connor McDavid, Aaron Judge and Cody Fajardo all stand out as great role models.
It’s just never been in their contract.

just a thought to think about for this role model conversation………..good athletes or people dont need to sign up to be a role model or have it in their contract. If you become a good role model it is because that is who you are as a person, naturally. Cody for example, just comes natural. Its like being a great grand parent and affecting the lives of your grandchildren, some have it, some dont. This is not limited to athletes, all people. Just my 2 cents.
