WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: HOCKEY, HOCKEY, HOCKEY

The boys of winter are on centre stage and we stayed on top of a wild week in the NHL with Wednesday’s Episode #949 of The RP Show – Daytime Sportstalk – on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and WQEE Radio! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont opened up with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL appetizers including a Leafs/Oilers preview!, 2) NHL leftovers from Tuesday including the Flames heartbreaking OT loss to the Bruins, 3) In the NBA the Raptors downed the Bulls 104-98 and the Hawks fell 119-116 to the Wizards, 4) The Blue Jays went 1-1 in split squad games Tuesday in Florida, 5) WR Dontrelle Inman returns to the Toronto Argonauts after seven seasons in the NFL, and 6) Randoms including Aaron Rodgers’ future, NFL Combine Week and Dub Hub.
  • Sportsnet Winnipeg’s Sean Reynolds joined the show to recap Tuesday’s 6-5 SO loss to the Kings and the struggles of the Jets, who’ve lost six of their last seven games. “Renny” revealed the team is fragile right now, and coach Rick Bowness is learning things about his club he didn’t know were there. Sean feels the club wouldn’t be in a playoff spot without the heroic play of goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who’s the best team in the NHL’s Eastern Conference – Boston, Carolina, NY Rangers or Tampa Bay? The Bruins won by a mile.
  • In Hour 2 we were joined by hockey analyst Sarina Taylor who explained why she called Connor Bedard “underwhelming” at this summer’s World Juniors day before he was benched by coach Dave Cameron. We recapped this week’s flurry of NHL trades and looked ahead to the stretch drive.
  • Rod’s NHL Top 5 for our exclusive betting partner Bet Regal are BOS – NYR – TOR – TB – COL while the Bottom 5 are PHI – CHI – SJ – CBJ – ANA.
  • Next up we were joined by TSN 1260 Edmonton’s Jason Gregor to preview the Leafs & Oilers. Gregor felt the price was steep to acquire defenceman Mattias Ekholm from Nashville but “You’ve gotta give up something to get something.” Regarding who’d win a one-game showdown between last year’s Oilers and this year’s team, Jason feels it’s a toss-up. We then examined the Western and Eastern Conference playoff races.
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar was Hustler Paterson. Wednesday’s was Sarina Taylor!
  • If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/12 am CT on Game+ TV, on our YouTube Channel or wherever you find your podcasts.
  • See you at 12 pm ET on Thursday on Game+ TV, WQEE Radio and YouTube Live!
